TODD'S 67 Time for another Buick!

    Hey guys,

I'm totally redoing the suspension and frame on my 67 Skylark. It will be cloned to a GS. From the factory, these cars sagged in the back and sat high in the front. It had air shocks on the back which helped level it out but then the ride suffered. I think I want to use regular shocks now. What about wagon springs in the back with normal shocks to get the rear up a bit? Then in the front, I was thinking about lowering coils to get the front down a bit. It will have the big block 400. Will all this be too much? Should I go stock rear and just lower the front? I would like it to sit a little lower when it's all finished. Maybe 18 or 19 inch wheels. Thanks for the suggestions!

Todd I put wagon springs in my 64 and it sat to high. It sat the best with a full tank of gas and some weight in the trunk.

I am planning to buy Eibach springs for a small block Chevy A body and that will lower the car about an inch I have been told.

    Hey Ed,

Maybe I'll just put new stock height springs in the back and lowering coils in the front then. What do you think about putting new small block front springs in even though I'll have the 400 in it? Might go too low?

    Hey Todd,

I am going with stock springs and 2" drop spindles myself. I would think that you could go with stock in the back and 1.5" lowering springs in the front to level it out.

I know somewhere there in the manuals there is a ride height measurement and it's almost 2" higher in the front if I remember correctly.

I replaced the rear springs with Eibach springs and will replace the front with Eibach also. You may be able to get away with bagging the rear and have handling and the rake of the car perfect to your taste.

    Thanks guys!

I would like to adjust the stance with the springs and not put 2" drop spindles on the front, although I haven't ruled that out either. The car was sitting really nice with the air shocks and rode pretty decent if I didn't max em out.

Wonder why they had the front so much higher from the factory??? Seems odd.

Are Eibachs top of the line? Looks like u can get a whole set for about $320.

Todd I put new stock springs in front on my 64 with a 455. It has headers and an aluminum intake. The front sits in the stock position.

I'm using Global West s-60 rear springs (67's would use an s-61) and Global West s-13's up front and I'm happy with the stance. Shocks are Edelbrock IAS front and rear.

Looks good Bill! It does have a nice stance. I may want to go just a bit lower in the front than that, not sure yet. Looks like the same amount of tire/wheel is exposed in the front and back.

I've got an aluminum head/intake small block under the hood so it's probably lighter than the springs were intended to support. It would probably sit a little lower with an iron head engine.

Try Moog 5230 springs in front, and Moog 5401 in the rear.
LOWEST riding stock replacements I know of, and they last a lifetime.

Will sit about like Bill's and will settle down another 1/2" more within about 6 months.
Some early GTO's used ones like this for low stance.
Cost $60 each or around that.

If you liked the adjustable stance from the air shocks the air bags that fit inside the springs may be the least expensive route. Added benefits are better handling and as mentioned adjustable rake. As to your question about eibachs they are very good!

So what parts are available from the 4dr 66?

Sounds like a great deal! It's about $150 for all four thru Rock auto. I wonder if all springs settle like that?

Hey Bill, what size wheels are you using? I'd like to go 18 or 19 inch, just wondering if those would fit good with the lowered stance. Thanks!

    Todd,
I know this is an old thread, but what did you end up doing and how did it work out?

    Thanks,
