I was thinking of buying 5 gallons of 110 at the track tommorow to mix in with the 93 in the tank already, good idea or no?
My reasoning is I have 11 to 1 with iron heads, I’m not hearing any detonation on the street or highway, but WOT at the track who knows what’s going on in the combustion chambero_O
Another question, will more octane than needed for the comp ratio slow me down??
I’d use unleaded race gas so I don’t foul my O2 sensor for my AEM gauge.

I put in 5 gal of race gas last weekend 1st time I started car up this year went out to my backroad slammed it to the floor ran good went to 110 at about 5 grand or so and the motor was pulling. Cleaned up those black plugs, but I am going to change them anyways.

Do they have unleaded race gas at the track? Not sure about that.

My brother uses a wideband O2 sensor in his Mustang and runs race gas in it.

Go to Michael's and get you 5.

Take the O2 out and plug it for the time being. You won't have time at the track to monitor the O2 flying like mad watching the tach and the oil pressure.

If you are already close on the O2 the race gas won't affect that much.

Yes race gas will slow you down if you do not have enough compression. But 5 gal won't hurt you any.

I think all race fuel is leaded.

I use 100ll avgas as my only fuel in my racecar.

Have used it for more than 20 years now. Half the price of race fuel, stores well. Evaporates on even cold ass days if spilled, I used it in my over 11:1 464.

Most local air ports will pump it into a jug for you

Absolutely! At WOT, you might not hear it. Will it slow you down ? Maybe a little, but worth it IMO. Highest octane for unleaded is 100 AFAIK. Take the O2 sensor out and plug it if you are worried, just mixing in some 110 short term should be OK.

The modern O2 sensors used are pretty tolerant of leaded fuel,...no worries with limited usage

I too have been told this^^^

I had planned on mixing some in when I ran (or tried to anyway) my car at BG, and with FI I couldn't pull the O2 sensor. I was told limited use would be fine, and guys running dedicated race cars with straight race fuel will usually get about a season out of a sensor. So a little mix once in a while wouldn't hurt them much if at all.

Funny I used to use this also but the airport ceased distributing it to private buyers due to state law. You are very lucky you can still get it because I was under the impression that this was a wave sweeping across the states that you wouldn't be able to continue buying the AV gas for long.

Weird, I haven't heard of that yet here in California. I know you can't pull your car up and fill it up but I have a few friends that take their cans to fill up. They use them in their performance boats. Hopefully it doesn't go that way, even though i am only running 9.4:1 i would like to splash some AvGas in once and a while.

From a previous race fuel thread:
I was inquiring about use of leaded race fuel in my car.

My car actually slows down when I use real race gas at the track. I'm sure it's because the avgas is oxygenated, when running race fuel it coolest the egts down a little

I used to buy 104 unleaded at our local track years ago when my GN was running. There was even a local gas station that had it at the pump, but you technically weren't supposed to pump it straight into your car unless it was on a trailer. You would have to put it in gas cans.

I have not seen any unleaded race gas around here for a while now. I barely know where to find race gas now and it is 9$ a gal now at a pump but that v112 stuff is about 12$ a gal. I remember not long ago it was $3.50 a gal

Last time I bought avgas........last year since my stuff still sits waiting for me to have free time to put it all back together

    Next week? Fingers crossed

But it was like 4.50ish a gal
