Looking for good leeds on radiator with 1" core for engine cooling and 1"core trans cooling. Griffins leak,be Cool to much$$, Whats left.
I installed this radiator. I know a couple of others here have used this radiator as well. http://www.jegs.com/i/Champion-Cooling-Systems/166/AE161/10002/-1
Look up your car on www.rockauto.com. They will probably show several 1 row aluminum radiators that are reasonably priced. Then add your own trans cooler in front of that radiator. That will be the most economical way to go. Something like this, http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=271642&cc=1379785&jsn=465
If you really want economy, go to rock auto. I can't vouch for quality and I believe the tanks are plastic. But if you're trying to save money.. Like the one Larry posted. I think many people have had success with these.
Larry, I will call them Wed. and ask. I buy their Corvette radiators for my customers and have talked with Tom DeWitt about various ideas in the past. This would probably be a good time to call and say Hi anyway. I'll mention that there is always the possibility that more Buick enthusiasts may jump on board if he offers a Direct Fit for us. I will let you know what he says. I will admit that his radiators are not the cheapest price though. Larry
Thanks Larry, My Griffin 2 row (1 1/4” tubes) is now going on 17 years. It has been leak free and performed flawlessly and it has epoxy to boot. I paid over 500.00 for it in May of 2000, so these radiators aren’t that expensive considering. I don’t mind paying for quality.
I have a Cold Case Aluminum Radiator available. Its been painted with Eastwood radiator black paint. Check their website and specification Cold Case Aluminum Radiator Item # RPE 44 LTF 68-72 GM A-Body Car
Ok Guys, .... I finally got a chance to call and talk to DeWitts Radiator. In speaking with "John" at DeWitts he confirmed that they would be willing to produce the radiator with a 1-1/2" lower outlet for us. I also confirmed that the drain location is high enough with plenty of clearance from the core support's lower saddle. John also mentioned that the top inlet location has recently been revised to be 1/8" lower than previous location which allows more clearance from the top retaining panel. We discussed how to make ordering these with the changes for our '68-'72 Skylark/GS easier than calling with a Chevelle part number and requesting changes to them. If there is enough interest John proposed to offer a designated part number for us. He also mentioned that they would offer a 15% discount to V8Buick board members hoping to see orders. The quality of these radiators is second to none, as a matter of fact Don of the former Alumitech Radiators used the Dewitt's cores for his Buick radiators. As soon as I get confirmation of a designated part number I will post it. Until then a call to John (517 548-0600) asking for the Buick 1-1/2" outlet will get you the radiator you want. They will honor the discount for automatic, manual, silver, or black (black has a higher base price). I hope this will be a benefit to our Buick community. Larry
^ If these guys were providing the cores to alumitech then I can vouch for the quality. I've been running an alumitech in my car for years (ordered well before they closed up shop) and have zero complaints. Car runs extremely cool with the factory mechanical fan even in the Texas heat. I did install an anode into the drain port as an extra precaution.
Took your advice and talked to John at Dewhitt's. Great to deal with and made me a radiator with 1 1/2" lower outlet. Honored the discount to v8buick members. Haven't installed yet but am very pleased with the quality and craftsmanship. Got the 1 1/4" 2 row black for 1970 GSX.
