On 71 skylark not sure if it matters.
I have what appears to be cargo coils, not sure as they were on the car for a while, anyways I took em out awhile ago they were installed tight coils down. Does this sound correct, I thought they went tight coils up?
Did not see specifics on Moog's site
Then I searched the web and found this
The tighter coils don't compress much--it's almost like the tight coils are ballast and the other coils are the only spring. With this simplifying assumption in mind: tight coils down adds unsprung mass; tight coils up adds the inert mass to the sprung chassis.
Does anyone have experience both ways or either way?

I just found a 3 page discussion on Chevelle.com and most say it doesn't matter
the general consensus is tight coils up

On a progressive rate spring yes tight coils up, on a fixed rate spring no it doesn't matter

Tight coils up, end of spring parallel to axle housing.
