In the process of building my 455, Scotty over at Scotty's racing engine asked if I wanted to rebuild the quadrajet or go with with a Holly or edelbrock carb. He did tell me I should upgrade the intake and go with a TA SP1 (anyone have one for sale, let me know). In speaking to others, they recommended to stay away from Holly and to rebuild the quadrajet or go with the edelbrock carb. I am mainly crusing and not looking at racing. With this said, let me know what are are some of the recommendations?

    Thanks

Qjet is best (properly built), Holleys have their fans here too. Edelbrocks seem popular with people who can’t spell.

You'll be happiest with a properly dialed Q-jet; and if you can start with one that was originally on your engine (or the same year 455) you'll be even farther ahead. And for cruising, don't waste your time and money with a different intake either.

A properly tuned Q-Jet can run 9's and putt around town without fouling plugs. The answer is always Q-jet.

Qjet carb....is the way to go.. Holley for the race track... Idlebroke is for scrape piles...
Ta SP 1 is a single plane intake.. What do you need a SP manifold for? Racing??? They perform best at WOT They suck for street use...
For some freakin reason no one can spell Idlebroke...Yes I have one of those POS intakes on my car.. Only thing that Piece Of Scrape is good for is the fact that its lite weight. You find that is nice for all the times you need to remove and replace the POS to fix leaks. Im fighting a leak at the T-stat housing now.. Waiting patiently for the wreaking yard down the street from my house to put a 68 LeSabre in the yard its in the processing yard right now. I want the iron intake...

X2 for above. I got rid of the Holley 750 DP that came with my car when I bought it and bought a fully restored 72 800 cfm Qjet from Ken at Everyday Performance (Techg8 here on the board).

What is your engine build? We used the SP1 with our Quadrajet in the convertible 462 build. Great on the street, cruising, and the track.

The SP 1 is a great intake, but you might have hood clearance issues in a 67. I have that intake and have never noticed a loss of low end. I use a QJ on the street and it is great. At the track, I use a 1000 Holley DP. If you build your fuel line the right way, the carb change is 15 minutes or less.

Thanks everyone for your posts. I had read about the SP1 and hood clearances. Recommendations on a Qjet rebuilder?

The two best are listed above ^^ I can't say anything about Carmantx I haven't used him but I am extremely happy with Ken at everyday performance work!

Everyday Performance started off by saving my Corvette that died on the edge of the road due to my own improper carb rebuild. Since then it's been continually awesome to work with him. He's not really guessing, all his modifications and changes to aid the best performance are completely planned out. Great quality, reasonable cost, and a great guy!

Do you mean Elderbrock? Eldebrock? Edelbrok?

I swear, spelling used to be a GED requirement.
