What is the best way to ship bumpers so they don't get damaged (Packing material & carrier)? I will probably be sending my bumpers to tri city in the near future.

Dan, I have sent Buick bumpers with just an address label taped to the bumper (Tri-City will fix any dents during the rechrome process). You can tape padding on the corners and sharp edges or you can make a box from flat cardboard (but not too big a box or the shippers won't take it and it will have to go by truck). I have used both FedEx and UPS with no damage.

What does tri-city charge for the typical bumper? I know desert dog is $295

You will have to email them or call them with the specific year/make/model of your car...

They just quoted me replating on 9/7/06 for a 1970 Buick Skylark:
    375.00 frt.
    395.00 rear

This doesn't include shipping which they estimate to run $35-$45 each way from Chicago to Tenn.

They are running about 12 weeks for turnaround.

Try Paul's Chroming. I think he is in Mar's PA near Pittsburgh. I should have a number around here somewhere if you can't find him on the web. He is VERY GOOD and warrants his work for life. He goes to the big shows and should be in Carlisle. He is pretty expensive, but you know you get what you pay for.

I called Paul's about my bumpers. They wanted at least 1,200.00 per bumper.
I asked for the warranty in writing and they told me they do not normally do that and i would have to speak to the owner. That kinda turned me off.

Did you ask for chrome or gold plating?

Go with Tri-City I have used them and they do excellent work for a very fair price.
    Current 70 Buick GS\Skylark prices front=$375.00 and the rear=$395.00

I didn't think the gold would look good so I asked for chrome . I called Tri-City and they told me about $850 per bumper . What am I missing ?

Mike, I was just down there at their shop less than 2 weeks ago to drop off 2 x '70 front bumpers and a '70 rear. I also picked up a '70 rear bumper. The cost was $375 for each front and $395 for each rear.

What did you ask them? The $850 sounds like the price for re-chroming both with return shipping included.

I am not sure if they have different qualities on the re-chrome (I don't think so)?

All their bumpers come with a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. All the ones they have done for me could go on a show car. The inside of the bumpers they do look better than some others do on the visible side.

I sent them some butt ugly rusty bumpers and when they came back I had a hard time believing they could be the ones I sent them to re-chrome. I also had a bumper they re-chromed on my car during an accident and the bumper was mangled but the chrome still looked great.

"Tri-City Plating offers re-chromed bumpers & guards. We can re-chrome your core or offer you a re-chromed bumper out of stock (subject to availability). We also TRIPLE PLATE all bumpers to insure a show quality chrome finish. Turn around times will vary at different times of the year. Call for approximate times. All of our bumpers have a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser."

Try to be careful cutting corners on price. You get what you pay for. Tri City is NOT that expensive. They are very competetive with any chrome shop and have the rep to back it up.

My rear bumper (69, a big bumper) cost about $375 shipped. I'd pay that a million times for the job they did.

As usual my simple mind must have been in tire smoke when I first talked with Tri-City Plating about price . Talked with them today and got the right price as several of you have already posted . Thanks Guys .
