Coming home from work today I saw a 70 ragtop with stage 1 emblems on it in Bloomington MN

Anyone here know who's it is?

Nope. Had the same question about a blue Stage 1 hardtop that I saw in the northern suburbs a week or so ago....no one knew that one either. Seems like there may be several renegade GS people out there that we need to somehow contact!

You would be surprised how many Buick owners out there are not on the internet, nor affiliated with any club...

I'll make sure that I have some BPG cards to hand out at the Car Craft Summer Nats in July. I would have tried to chase him down but my Saturn won't go that fast.:Dou:

    No kidding

I agree. I've try to strike up a dialogue between a few local e-mail lurkers and even a co-worker. No dice. These people are in my own home town of 3000 people! Don't these people need parts?

I drove by a 71 GS 350 Convertible two blocks away from home. I was going to stop but what's the point?

I have found the same thing. Finding interesting buicks is not the hard part, its finding owners that are interested in being active in the hobby that presents a challenge. It seems to me that if you own a classic car you have to be an enthusiast on some level, but many people are not. I pass out BPG / V8buick info when I can but I haven't found many who are interested in joining up or logging onto the board. Doesn't hurt to try though!:beer I will say this though, there are many "lurkers" on the board; people who never post. I think it would benifit everyone if we got more participation, the more discussion the better. That's my $.02

    Lurkers

I don't really consider myself a lurker but I do fit into the category of those who don't belong to a club. I have been looking at various clubs since I bought my Riviera last year. The only thing that I think may stop someone from hurrying to join a club is the desire to be sure to join one where they fit in. The group of people on this board are by far the most welcoming bunch I've come across yet and they seem to be primarily BPG members. I keep my car as close to factory as I can and it looks like most of the people here are racers. I have learned more here than I have any place else but I'm not sure if a stocker is the right fit for the BPG. So, everyday I read on and on getting a feel for who is who and then I'll make a decision. Maybe I've missed it but I believe it would be a good idea for the clubs that participate here to post a thread with specifics about their club. Who they are, mission statement, primary location of activities,.....
I have to thank Yardley for turning me on to this Forum. It's made up of a great bunch of people with plenty of knowledge about Buicks. :beer

    Stocker Shmocker -

We are all crazy here one way or the other. If this group meets your needs for info and the occasional B.S. thread, feel free to join in. There is something for the restoration guys, racers, even the NON-BUICK musclecar drag racers!! It is no coincidence that the folks on this board tend to be BPG members - the same folks were behind both this board and the BPG at the beginning. In rare and true "fast with class" fashion, the board survived as a free and lively forum after the BPG got off the ground.

I'm not a club joiner either, as there are about 20 I could easily fit into between Buicks, homebrewing, R/C planes, et cetera et cetera et cetera. I waited most of a year to join BPG because of previous experience with a four letter Buick club. I dropped the 35 smackers just to qualify for the Year 1 discount on my new seat upholstery - paid for it immediately.

Now I feel so special and accepted... Seriously, BPG is a group that you can believe in with the best interests of the members at heart. It's not always like that..

Its funny that you say the BPG seems to be more race oriented. I believe part of the reason the BPG was founded was because a certain buick club (I'm not flaming them, just making a point) wasn't pushing very hard to get reproduction parts made. They mostly focused on the performance aspect. The BPG realized that we need restoration parts to keep our cars going.

There is going to be a diverse group of people in any club and there have to be events and such to keep people interested. That would explain the BPG racing get-togethers but there is a "nationals" event planned for 2004 if I remember correctly. I believe the concours restoration people are just as at home as the racing fans (and of course everyone in between). For example, The Build Sheet has one or two full page (sometimes 2-3 page) articles every month catering to those of us restoring our cars. Everything from Duane's wheel articles (very helpful) to some tips about getting in over your head when picking a car to restore. There's my $.02 (for the 2nd or 3rd time today:Brow: )
