Hello All, I am glad I found this site. I am in Arizona (alternating between Cave Creek and Flagstaff). I have a 1970 Buick GS 350 that I have owned since high school (a LONG TIME). I also have a 17 year old son who is awesome and I want to work with him on it and get started on this car by installing the latest and greatest affordable v8/transmission combination in this car. Any guidance/advice as to information sources would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Scott

i suppose you could do the ls/700r4 thing if your not concerned with sticking to basics. But what ive witnessed, you say resto-mod that equals $$$$$$$$.
Welcome from Michigan! If you want more power and retain the factory look, then a sbb 350 stroker to 370 to 380 cubes would run really well! That combined with a 200R4 and some 3.42:1 gears would = a whole lot of smiles per miles! And it will still be the engine that is on the GS 350 badge.(probably get a different core to build and shrink wrap the numbers matching engine and store if you ever want to bring the car back to original or a future owner can) There is self tuning EFI available now that is slightly more than an high end carb and would be even more economical with boost than a carb because there is no need for all the extra controllers or no need for dyno tuning that can get very expensive very fast! Thank you very much for the intel. I am seriously fired up. When you wrote sbb 350, did you mean small block buick 350? Would not a chevy 350 with 4 bolt mains be a better choice? What do you think of mating a 6/8 speed auto trans with a sbb/sbc 350 and an FiTech System?
Yes, a small block Buick 350. Although a sbc(small block Chevy) is a fine platform to build, your car is a Buick. Why make your thoroughbred a mongrel when you can do a sbb stroker for around the same price that will run just as good or better than a sbc stroker? The difference between the 2 engine platforms is its a bit more work for the Buick because it doesn't have the off the shelf support that the sbc has so the sbb needs to have the factory crank offset ground, you can't buy an off the shelf stroker crank like you can for the sbc. The cool part is when you do a sbb stroker you buy used nascar rods from eBay for pennies on the dollar from what they cost new so a lot of savings there. AutoTec makes a sweet customizable piston as a piston and ring kit that works great when building a sbb stroker. You need to do your homework when building one though because you need to tell the piston make what diameter, compression distance, dish volume and wristpin size when you order a set for a sbb stroker.
