Installed the rear speaker and ran wire to front of car before starting wiring. Rear speaker was NOS and came with all parts including wiring which was originally installed blue, but I used the green as the connectors were nicer and the correct length.

I tore apart the air duct dampers/flaps (if that's what they are called) and restored them. The uppers I bought a sheet of same thickness rubber and cut it to match what was left of the old ones, blasted/painted the parts re-assembled with new rubber. The old rubber was ripped and dry rotted really bad. The lower kick panels were I believe a pre-cut foam piece and I just replaced it although I will not be using the lowers because the reproduction kick panels already have them installed in them but I might change them and use these. Also installed the defroster duct before I got too ahead and could not get it in.

Assembled the steering column, wow what a bunch of little parts. I was surprised once I sorted everything out from boxes how many NOS parts I actually found for the column over the years. The turn signal switch, key buzzer, lower bearing, lower bearing adapter, lower bearing tube, back up switch mounting tabs, sector gear, key ignition assembly, steering column seal, intermediate steering shaft coupling bearing, steering shaft spring, steering shaft washer, ignition switch, end cap retaining ring, cancelling cam, backup switch and the back drive grommet bushing were all NOS in GM packaging. This column is about as new as it can get...lol

Installed clutch rod and clutch boot and adjusted the clutch play, might may need some fine tuning once I get it running. I had a NOS clutch boot (this was super hard to find and you can't even see it once installed). 006.JPG 007.JPG

Comparison of NOS to reproduction, you would think they could get closer than this, way off.

Installed the AM radio, bracket was plated. The radio was NOS along with the antenna lead in. In the pictures you see 2 radios, they are both NOS. I used the one on the left and the other may already be spoken for but if not I will post it.

Installed the NOS door switches, NOS glove box switch, the original dimmer switch (detailed) and assembled the ashtray. I disassembled it and had everything plated. Got the correct rivets and assembled it. Came out awesome almost like new.

If your following the last posts, yea I been busy...moved onto the dash assembly.

As with most of this project I had a bunch of NOS parts for this dash as well stored away. The dash vent, headlamp switch, dash accessory plate, wiper switch, cigarette lighter, cigarette lighter bezel, radio knobs, radio fader knob and tune adjustment knobs and the defroster unit are all NOS. All other dash parts were mostly plated or re-painted depending on what it was and the cigarette lighter casing was a reproduction part.

Dash bezel, radio bezel and under dash bezel were re-plated by Chrome Tech just before he retired, he literally called me weeks before his deadline, just made it under the wire.

Dash is all wired and all components are connected. Waiting on radiator hoses and heater core along with a couple other small parts to come. Radiator and heater box need put in along with some hoses, clamps etc. Can't wait for the big day of installing battery and starting it up, its getting close.

Big thanks to Ajesh for locating me a nice cowl screen and making the journey to get it. It came on Saturday afternoon and I think I had it cleaned up/primed, painted and installed by Saturday night. Installed the cowl seal and the stainless windshield lower molding, came out awesome. Thanks again.

You are all caught up to me....onto assembly of the convertible top. Tons of tiny parts here as well. Don't look bad until you lie all the parts out on table/floor, then it looks like a ton of work. Thanks for following...more in a couple weeks.

I do believe the level of resto on this car has far surpassed any other out there in the Buick community. VERY THROUGH to say the least,..kudos,..so how the hell does the inner steering tube separate from the outer tube there at the upper bearing?

Hugger, are you talking about the tube that has the back drive arm on it or the tube that mounts the ignition switch. How far apart do you have it?

hopefully you got some kind of "deal"

The tube with the arm, trying to get it out of the other tube,..its tore down to just those two components I know it's got to twist out somehow to unlock the upper bearing but so far no luck

If all the upper bowls are removed and both plates removed it’s just a bearing up there. You would also have to make sure the backup switch is removed or it will keep it from coming out. If all the bowls are removed should not be anything holding it in other than the bearing. That should be a loose fit there.
