    Hi all,

The premiere event of the year for our town! Last year, over 250 custom bikes and about 70 collector cars participated in this annual Show and Shine.

The Squamish Classics Car Club along with Trev Deeley Motorcycles, will host this event and the Squamish Downtown Merchants Association have full-heartedly supported this show.

Registration on Sunday, September 20th begins at 10:00 a.m. and will cost $20. The first 50 registrants will receive commemorative dash plaques and full-colour T-shirts. There will be 30 class trophies and show judging will end at 12:30 p.m., with trophy presentations at 1:00 p.m.. There will be both a door prize draw and 50/50 draw.

For 2009, there will be 2 live bands playing and, most importantly, an entertaining play area in the park for children. Also, new this year, more of the main street, Cleveland Avenue, will be set aside for the show area. It's hoped many of the downtown stores along the show boundaries will be open for business. Regardless, a concessionary stand will provide plenty of food and the Parkside restaurant will feature a barbeque in the park.

At about noon, be prepared for the Harley riders to rumble through town, as they will terminate their 60 kilometer ride from Burnaby to Squamish, and park their bikes for display to the public. Almost like a mini-Sturgis with a spectacular, mountainous backdrop.

    Hi Johnny,

I'll try to save a spot, between the GN and the GS, for you. If you need, I can register you so you'll be assured a T-shirt and dash plaque.

Rain? Now, why would you say that? I'm sure the weather will be great. I'll save a spot for you near the front. Please call me that morning, on the cell, to remind me.

    Hey Nando;
The doc wants me to keep the walking cast on for another 2 weeks  , so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it up. I may try driving the Electra around the neighourhood to see how the ankle holds up in terms of strength. I'll let you know.

    Hi Johnny,

Are you joking! We'll be lucky to even get any snow for the 2010 Winter Olympics with El Nino hovering out in the Pacific.
On a side note: thanks for the Led Zeppelin CDs, and I cleaned up, demagnetized, and lubed my $15 Whistler thrift store purchase last night, after our car club meeting. The Pioneer CT-F950 cassette deck sounds like it would have 30 years ago, and all the functions work fine.

    Hi Doug,

Do you know any Vintage Car Club of Canada members? About 30 of their members plan to attend our show. So, perhaps, if you can't drive, you could catch a ride up to Squamish, and back.
It would be much nicer for you to bring the Electra, especially since not too many convertibles make it out.

    Take care,

    Nando.

I do know a couple so I'll check with them. If I come up, I'll be sure to let you know, particularly if I need a "reserved" spot next to the other Buicks :TU: Talk to you soon.

    Hi all,

A few days to go until the big show! Today, I'll finish cleaning the GS, and uncover the GN for a lttle detailing, before Sunday's event. Our work crew will be setting up early Sunday, beginning 7:00 a.m..
It's great to have the support of the community in holding such an event. Years back, our town had a big weekend event called " Thunder In The Streets." The downtown Squamish area was used for an autocross race track, and in its' last year, the competition was incredible, with over 200 racers in different classes.

It's, now, becoming a popular idea for communities and cities to hold auto-related events. One such get-together is The Sleepy Hollow Rod Run in Sechelt, B.C.. The pictures, I posted in this thread, were taken at that event.

Doug F. and I, with our families, made it out and had a wonderful time, together. I'll post more photos and a little accounting of what transpired, later, in a new thread named " Sleepy Hollow Rod Run."

    Take care,

    Nando.

"Come on, get up. We're all meeting for breakfast at 6:30 at A&W." And thus the day began, as I vaulted out of bed, and the girlfriend lingered awhile longer, responding with a barely audible, " I thought you said we're supposed to meet at 7:30. Sheesh." Yes, this year our car club agreed, at the prior week's special meeting, we'd get an early start, as we expected there would be a much larger group attending The Rumble To The Rock 111, than in the 2nd Annual. A few days earlier, rain had fallen, but I had every confidence the weather would be superb. And I wasn't disappointed, as the day began clear and crisp.

Whipping off the car covers from the GS and GN, and after a brief idle warm-up, we both left for breakfast; Geri driving the big block. A half hour later, with a few coffees downed and fed, our club members were ready to set up the show area. As I helped with erecting the signage, pylons, and registration tables, Geri offered to give the two Buicks a quick detailing. Right on, as I'm busy at the end of the street, two blocks away from where we began parking the first of the car show entrants. About thirty minutes later, as I'm walking back towards my cars, I'm intercepted by Shelley, who says, " Geri's cleaning your car, but she's doing it all wrong. She's starting with the rims, and working her way up... using the same cloth. I think you'd better get back there." Well, that can't be! She's helped me before, and knows the cleaning procedure. Of course, I'd been had, as Geri had finished with the GS, and nothing was untowards. Trust a club member to play a number on me.

    Continued later...

    Hey Johnny,

Are you able to post any pictures you've taken? Well, with only 5 Buicks in attendance, I can't justify displaying too many multi-angle shots of the same car. But, I've saved a few more shots for this thread, of the Group Of Five. I think Doug F. took some digital photos, as well, and a bit of video footage of the bikes rolling into downtown.

Congratulations to Johnny(JohnnyGS), who attended the recent Pemberton Show and Shine, this past weekend. Probably, the lone Buick there, out of the 40, or so, cars participating.

He was rewarded with a 2nd place trophy in the Best GM class, and was edged out by a fully restored, black, 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible. Johnny's 1964 Skylark appears in the following photos, taken by him, at the R2R 111 in Squamish:

Nice job Johnny :beers2: I'll put up some of my pics once I get a chance to download them off the camera. It was a nice day and drive up to Squamish on the new highway! Thanks for saving the buicks a spot Nando, it's nice to have them all together like that :TU:
