Hey guys im looking for some feedback on the run to the sun carshow at myrtle beach sc.
I've never been and looking for first hand experience from those that have.
    Considering going there myself.
Looks like this is the 30th anniversary of the show so surely some of u guys or gals have been.
Is there lots of cruising and hanging out?
Or has it turned into a diesel truck fest like the pigeon forge rod run has?

It is mostly a ' hot rodder's dream'. Mostly a huge parking lot sit and shine, with a good amount of classic muscle cars thrown in. It was, IMHO, better when it was held a the old Waccamaw Pottery shopping center. DEFINITELY bring and USE sunscreen and a nice wide brim straw hat if you have one, or you will regret it. Nothing hurts worse than a bad sunburn when it is still cold outside later. I can't believe you're from SC, a car nut, and have never been to the "Run To The Sun' ...Or are you a transplant?
doesn't seem to be a lot of cruising during the show times, but the days before, and evenings of,,, OH YEAH...Plenty of vendors for parts, classic and hot rod, and ,surprisingly, very few FOOD vendors. If you intend on staying near there, I hope you already have reservations... Parking and traffic is a bit of a headache, locals either do NOT allow you, or charge $5 to $10 to park, but that is like ANY event anywhere... Lots of Police enforcement/ assistance/ "guidance"...
I love it and try to go every year.

I've been going for a while now. We pay the $10 on Saturday to park in a big lot across the street, I think it's the NBSC centre. Fridays you can pay to park in the trees on the south end of the show. Get there early! Lots of traffic.

We need to have a V8Buick.com meet & greet!

One of my favorite shows. I like the current location. It is just two blocks to the beach. I walk over from the beach each morning. Get in the lot Wednesday to insure a spot. It is held on the footprint of an older shopping center that was torn down. Got to the cruise down Ocean Boulevard Thursday evening. It is wild.

It is a mixture of muscle cars and rods. Leave your car overnight at the event. There are guards and no one leaves after about 9 pm. Do not leave a show car in a motel lot in Myrtle Beach. If you need to do that stay at North Myrtle Beach or Ocean Drive. There is a high rate of property crime in Myrtle Beach proper.

    Thanks for the replys guys.
Steve im native to upstate sc.

Alan a buick meet and greet would be
Awesome! If all goes well i will take the
Ragtop and hope for warm pretty weather.

Jim do u think the north part of regular mb hotels would
Be safe to leave my car?
It seems like in the past ive seen drama down near the crown reef hotel on what i would call the southern part of mb during the summer months.
Seems up near the Patricia grand end of the strip is more refined. Would love your input on that!

I’ve been going for years, last year I got there on Wednesday afternoon and parked it and left it there till Saturday. I put a cover on at night. I can tell you security is very good. I tried to get in to put my cover on Friday and was to late and they would not let me in.

It’s a great show and 3000 plus pre 1990 cars, it’s really cool.

Get there on Wednesday and register. They are always full sometime Thursday.

Registration is off the current site in a hotel (now Clarion) beside the old site off 501. Even if you are pre registered you need to pick up your packet, including show passes, off site. You do not want to do this Thursday morning. Do it Wednesday. The registration site is a 10-15 minute drive from the current car show site.

There is a Sheraton Hotel across the street from the current car show location. It is convenient but the only time I stayed there a cheerleader convention was hosted. The noise kept me up all night. I checked out early and they gave me a refund. It may be a regular event. I would check before I would stay there.

I'm not big on crowds and traffic, but I have a cool 1br condo in North Myrtle with assigned parking (no one will be there probably anyway) that I would rent if I'm familiar with you.

It's not a rental unit at all. Just something I rent to some friends, and a few family members. You will need to leave it exceptionally clean however..

It's about 15 miles north of the show in a quiet area with everything you need withing walking old people walking distance.

It's a really really big show.

Jim the way my work schedule is i wont be able to get there until Thursday.
So that being said i guess i will be taking my chances getting a spot on the show field. It will be a four hour drive there and im sure the car will need to be cleaned up from the drive.
Jay thanks for the offer but my wife has already booked a hotel earlier this week.
I would be interested in it for future off season events tho if that was a possibility on your end. If u could pm me more details about the place that would be great!

If you get there late Wednesday, try the Old Holiday Inn (now Clarion ) to see if you can get your packet. If not, be there before 7 am Thursday and head straight back to the old Myrtle Beach Mall site to get in.

Another tip is to avoid parking in the middle area which is ringed with food vendors. This is where the actual structure for the old mall was located before it was taken down. This area is sandy soil resulting in many cars getting stuck. Late comers to the show may have no choice.

Ron's pics represent this show very well. The goal is to park on the old asphalt parking lot for the Myrtle Beach Mall which is long gone. The very best spaces also have some shade trees. The sun can be intense, even in March.
