On my 68 Skylark convertible I am reinstalling the seat belts after a few months and have 2 size anchor bolts as in the picture. This is a Skylark Custom with bench seat( No armrest ) My question is which anchor holes do the longer ones go into ? I've been trying the longer ones in the different holes with no luck as they will not go all the way in.

Not sure about bench seat but on bucket seat cars, the longer bolts with the flat non threaded section held the two belts on each side of the drive shaft tunnel. One was the lap belt and the other coupled with the shoulder harness

X2 what Sting2 says. The short bolts are for the retractors, the longer bolts with the shoulder are to attach multiple belts at the hump. Typically, the shorter full threaded bolts are used at the rear, also.

Thanks guys that is it. Now to get those inner bolts in with the rubber boot on . Hard to get a wrench 13/16" on the head of the bolt

I use a crescent wrench, which is the only thing I've found in my tool box that works.

Its not hard if the seats are out. This is the only way they were meant to be done. A crescent wrench will mangle them. Use a 6 point socket. Just go slow. I have never used anything but a socket. Not sure why you guys are having problems?

After a good night's sleep and getting a 6 point socket on the head all is good. I don't remember those 2 inner bolts being such a task but it's been over 6 months- can't remember or take a pict of everything. The entire interior was removed as I could only imagine getting to those bolts with the seats in place.

Yes Rich, it’s not really tough at all if you concentrate. With those really thin Hex heads it can be easy to slip off with the socket though. I am guessing that’s why they went with torx head screws starting in 72?

Was worried about tearing the rubber boot tearing but they proved pretty durable. My problem it turned out was the inner one I did first it turns out was stripped . Other side went in smoothly. Haven't stripped a bolt in a while so after re tapping the hole I should be good.

You should not tear the boot because the correct bolts don’t bottom out. Everything moves.
