You can't go wrong with taking the extra time to set the pump up as good as you possibly can. It it well worth the money, time and effort spent, even if just for peace of mind on a stock build. I also (very) lightly deburr the edges of the gears, just knock the sharp corners off. Beyond that, enlarging the pickup is a real benefit. The real bonus of course comes when you reduce all the losses inside the engine on the pressure side but it all works together and real results only come when you do everything. Can I just change the spring without losing my "prime"? It may be a little messy, but I need to change the oil as well. Any advise with this one would be appreciated.
