Has anyone shaved the drip rails on their GS/Skylark 68-72? I am tossing the idea around and wondered what it may look like. Would be even more impressed if it still had the vinyl top.
A friend of mine did this to a 69 Camaro. He started cutting the drip rails off and found there is not anything else holding the roof on! Had a bit of a mess on his hands, but dealt with it. Keeping the vinyl roof would be good-cover up all the welds!
The vinyl roof edges are sealed by the trim on the driprails and window trim. If you get rid of the driprails how do you propose to seal the vinyl? Wrap around and seal w th the chrome trim for the side glass weatehrstripping? I have always thought it would be nice to get rid of the a-pillar driprails as they directly impact the airflow, and maybe get rid of the vertical section behind the quarter glass. but restos don't allow that so I let it pass. If you try it, let us know how it goes. Later Tim
Don't do it! You will be sorry! If you don't want drip rails, get another car w/o them from the factory!
Drip rails -- been done Brian It's been done on a 69 right here on this forum. Go to "Wrenchin' Secrets" and find a thread about modifying a 69 Buick. The guy is absolutely amazing. Not only has he removed the drip rails, he modified the front and rear windshields to be flush with the body (no chrome), installed power steering box from a Monte Carlo, installed tilt wheel (from a Camaro?), installed different spindles, cleaned up the firewall and installed VintageAir A/C and and and. I forget his name. But he is a Staff Sergeant assigned to the national Training Center at Fort Irwin CA. He spends a lot of time in the field. When he's not, he is wrenchin' on his Buick He hasn't posted an update in a while so you may need go back 8-10 weeks to find the thread. The dip rail removal starts at about post #100 or #110. But trust me when I say that once you start reading the thread, you'll wnat to read the whole thing. Craig
