Has anybody noticed lately the shipping prices some places have been charging ? Nothing but a total rip off! I ordered a window regulator roller from CONVERTIBLE TOP SPECIALISTS in FLA. The part is the size of a NICKEL. They put it in a 14 in.X 12 in. envelope and charged my credit card $9.00 for shipping a $5.00 part ! After calling about this and getting nothing but attitude, They lost me as a customer. Check out this $4.00 hose from the PARTS PLACE. They charge $15.00 to send this ! Something is wrong.

I fully agree. It is even worse when you intl.
At the same time it is much cheaper to ship e.g. strayberrys from China to Europe than to use the homegrown one???
    I don't get it.

even USPS has gone up a lot!
All my family is in Newfoundland Canada.
A few ears ago I could fill a large box and mail it home for $30, ground.
Now international to Canada doesn't use ground anymore, everything goes by air.
    That same box is $65

I just mailed a birthday gift to a friends son last week. The box was about 14"x10"x4", and had Leggos in it. Wasn't that heavy. $38 for the slowest route possible.

Needless to say I dont mail many packages any more and for his next birthday, I'll be emailing him money.

If you are buying small stuff from major suppliers, the shipping will be high. Places like Ames, OPG, TPP, Y1, etc., use a sliding shipping scale. So you buy 5 decals and pay 12-15.00 SH which is way too much. The next guy buys something heavy like brake calipers and maybe what he pays doesn't really cover the cost, packing, box etc. It kind of averages out, but...yeah...it's gone way up and it's a killer if you need small stuff like decals, clips, rubber bumpers, a door handle or something like that.

And yet some shipping is reasonable. The Parts Place sent me a chrome air cleaner lid in a large well-packed box for only $10. Smaller regional carrier likely was the reason, per my request.

But do we really need another complaint thread about shipping charges?

Ok, how about a company like Summitt who charges extra for handling, extra for shipping and THEN uses an oversized box and packs it full of all their advertising crap!!! They are making me pay to ship me their paraphernalia that never wanted!! :af:
THAT reeeeaaaalllly pisses me off and will go to all lengths to NOT buy from them because of that.

How would you feel if you were charged $9.00 to ship something the size of a NICKEL ? Sounds like stealing to me !

Where I work, a minimum size pkg sent to a residence costs from $7-$10 to go ups. No handling fee either.

What they charge for shipping is just part of the total. The total is the total; just shop that way.
I just bought a big TV from a store that offered free White Glove shipping. Was it really free?

I hate buying from places like "thepartsplaceinc" on eBay.

Look at their feedback this past year - 125 negatives in one year and 16 negatives just in the last month.

It makes you think that they have too much to sell and not enough HELP to keep up with the orders they receive.

That is just plain STUPID :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Had to buy a brake line (the long one) in order to get to go to Cruizing the Coast. Bought it from Summit and had to have it airfreight.

    Brake line=$49.00
    Airfreight (over night)=$101.00

It weighed about the same as a bottle of beer.

Weight is just one part of the rate calculation to ship a pkg. Size is a very big component of the calculation when you start getting into larger boxes, and length is a killer, regardless of weight.

I will go the other way with it. I am often surprised how some places can ship so cheap! They ship at much lower rates than I get when I go to the post office.

I just bought 2 USB adapter/chargers on EBay, $7.60 with free shipping! Ships from China! Shipping that across the state would have cost almost as much. Something's just wrong with that?

Most Mail order places double the actual shipping costs to pay for the supplies, and the guys who box them up.And probably the shipping costs to them also.If you live inthe midwest(Illinois, wisconsin, iowa, parts of Missouri) try to use Speedee. They are real resonable.

I've purchased a couple of items from China in the last two months from people offering free shipping and I've been very surprised at how fast the items arrived. Both times they beat the estimated arrival time and one of them arrived in only three days! As a contrast, a couple of items purchased here in the states took several days past the estimated arrival time with the tracking services offered failing to track the items accurately. What's wrong with this picture?

Funny, when I ordered from Summit, they gave me a razor in the box. Best razor I ever used! The blade lasted forever too. I wasnt too upset over that.

Shipping does cost alot in general though. You dont realize it untill you start selling on Ebay. Boxes, packaging and tape all cost money. Especially tape! Have you priced that stuff lately? And every shippers prices have gone up exponentially because of fuel costs.

Sometimes the Ebay shipping calculator doest work well. I would email the seller and ask him if he realizes Ebay is calculating shipping at $15
