Have a 69 Skylark amfm in my 65. When I hit a bump the station cuts out. Radio still is on. I can tap the radio at bottom a couple time and station will come back. Any ideas what to look for before I give it to the repair shop. Thanks, John
Make sure everything with the antenna, power and ground is secure, if that doesn't help it could be a cracked land or solder joint on one of the circuit boards.
I would try to move the bias adjustment a little. It likely the "pot" doesn't have a good contact. Usually moving the adjustment scrapes the contacts enough to get it going again. I'd try this first before anything else. If you look on the bottom of the radio, there's a small round access hole for a small screwdriver. Behind the hole, you should see a small X type cutout. Try putting a small screwdriver in there and moving that X back and forth a little. That's the adjustment for the bias. The bias should be adjusted to 1.5 volts. If you want, you can get a digital volt ohm meter, place the positive lead on the FM output transistor and the black to case ground. The FM output germanium transistor is on the black heatsink and is usually marked "Delco DS-501" If its out of adjustment, adjust at the control pot on the bottom of the radio. You dont even have to take the bottom panel off the radio. Just use a small screwdriver and adjust to as close to 1.5 as you can with the volume about halfway
Hey guys. Thanks for your input. Well I removed the radio from the car. Car now in winter storage. Bench tested radio(different antenna) and cannot duplicate the problem. Has to be a connection problem when in the car. Maybe antenna issue. Wont know any more until spring.
