I am fighting this issue now. Seals I have in there now are 470. Too much end play. Ordered expensive Yukon seals that state .490 they measured .440 even worse ready to throw in the towel. Car can set on jack stands rest of its life. Tired of pulling thing apart and fighting with these parts manufactures.
I am mo on the hunt for correct part or possibly make shims I guess.

I know what you mean. I went through 3 sets of bearings before I got it right. I did buy a new set of retainers from Inline Tube and that seemed to tighten things up. Maybe my old ones were wore out a little.. I had too much invested in the original Buick rear to go looking at aftermarket so it was press on, cut and press off until I finally got it tight.

I rebuilt the rear with all new bearings. It's the original code rear to the car . I wanted to replace seals even though they weren't leaking not knowing this would be a issue lol. I contacted summit today and told them about the issue with the Yukon .490 seal they are advertising with big bold letters coming in at .450 after measured. They are going to call Yukon on Monday and find out why they are advertising parts that are not even close to spec. They are going to call me back on Monday after speaking with them. I explained the issue in the buick and olds community on the specs on timmken and this seal and problems it has caused. The importance it plays in tapered bearings.
This was a $26 dollar seal that was even farther off then a 712146. They actually were grateful I informed them of these issues.
