I've been meaning to ask this for a while; I know that I love big Buicks, and have owned about 20 or so over the years. The reason I like them is for their size, comfort, build quality and the engineering. And yes, I love the styling too. I like that they're now considered a unique car in a sea of Chevys and muscle cars. It's nice that they're horribly under-rated and it's always a pleasant surprise to school some ignoramous in a Ricer that these "old man" cars really move. I've driven and ridden in others but nothing compares to a big Buick, and for me it's been that way since my dad bought a 1958 Super as his first real car after we emigrated here. So what motivates you?
Mark don't let the ricer people know they are fast - they'all want one, and put wings and airdams and turbo's on them and there wont be enough originals left for us. Big, bold and comfy and not one every other block. or most times another the same, even at the car show
Love the size and the style. Plus it's fun to have something that isn't a Chevy or a Ford. Also it's always amusing when people walk up and say "what is that thing?" I have yet to see another '71-76 Electra outside of the internet. I did find a few 70's Lesabres for sale localy though.
Definitely Size and Style... and.. as has been said..... not to many around. I'm usually the only one with a 4 Dr. HT Wildcat at any show. I've probably got the only '63 in the state. Nothing like driving a Couch at 60+ mph!
It's nice to be able to have 4-5 adults ride comfortably to cars shows, cruises, or to the diner. I come from a long line of Buick men. My grandfather had several, most memorable was the '58 Super, and my dad had many as well but my favorite was his '36 coupe. I don't recall if it was the small or big car but I'll never forget the sound of the straight 8. It was a survivor that was original when he sold it back in 1977.
Well for me the "boats" have always looked good but it was the fender lines on the 67-68 E225 and Wildcats... I just had to have one.
I grew up on Buicks in the 70's, seems like at one time or another, every family member owned more than one of them back then. My father had a teal mist grey '71 Electra and a '75 Electra Limited, so Buick is in the blood for me!

First car was a 71 LeSabre 4 door sedan...was hooked the second I sat in it. I later found out that my dad's side of the family owned Buicks since the early 30's all the way through the early 90's.
I never really thought about it till just now, but growing up I loved the Grand Nationals like any good boy did in the 80's, but it was driving down the road next to a '67 Wildcat that got me looking at the old Buicks. I decided I needed a Wildcat with a big block, then found out that every one else thought the same thing. Someday I'll afford one of them :laugh:

bought a 71 electra 4 door, more rust than metal, but drive train ran like a top. here I am now 6 cars later, with a 72 limited 2 and 4 door. I can't beat the feeling with a stick.
I like the big boats for the same I reason I like all old Buicks in general. (Better) More car for your money!

i live in south florida where an old car is a 2008 bmw. in 2 years nobody has guessed the year of my electra. i just got my first trophy at a show and now my wife doesnt laugh as hard, marty
Ive always had an attraction to the big boats. One of my first was a 72 caddy Fleetwood 4 door. Big old boat with a 472. That thing would cruise. I had big Fury's and big old Impalas. The 2 Rivs Ive had are my Fav of all. Power ride and room. Nothing like seeing the face of some punk kid in a mustang as you pull away from them while shifting into second.
Probably started because of them being cheap even back in the day. At 16 in 77/78 my second vehicle was a 1970 Cadillac Coupe Deville. I bought it for $500. I was scanning the want adds for any cars under $500. Most other kids that had cars had muscle cars but I always had to be different so it seemed to fit. To me I was getting a whole lotta car for not much money by buying big. I was able to park in the teachers parking lot at school and was never questioned:TU: That 70 did so well for me the next boat was a 67 Riv a year later with 60k mi for $275! Really well built reliable transportation for that time period. Then the following year I picked up a 66 Grand Prix (thats a boat) and then a couple years later a 74 Coupe Deville but eventually settled back on Buick for good. Been hooked ever since. Overall the Buicks seemed easier to work on and had better engineering vs the Cadillacs.
