I wanna puke... Looking at those pictures makes me sick. I've seen cars much worse than those get the metal patched and restored out here in the northeast. I'd probably:ball: if I witnessed some of that rust free metal getting crushed. I'm sure it happenns every day out by you southern California lucky stiffs! I'd have a heyday just looking at that yard through the fence.:Brow:
not going to be making it to the swap meet tomorrow.. I hit it a couple months ago and picked up some books but parts were few and far between. are there any other yards in SoCal that have a decent buick inventory
You're kidding, right? Seriously, if you couldn't find what you needed there then I doubt that it would be in any yards out here. There is a little yard up on a hill out off the 60 past the 15 that had a few Skylarks when I was there. They were pretty much picked clean. :ball:
I'm also surprised at how clean that yard is compared to any others I've been in around here in Western New York state. All the ones out here are full of muddy ruts that fill with water when it rains. Also, peices of trim and other hardware litter the area around all the cars to the point you have to go in with boots on that protect your ankles. Wish our yards were as clean as this one appears to be. It must be the California envirnmental laws are more strict than ours.:bglasses:
That's only partly the reason. The enviornmental laws only make them reclaim ALL of the fluids and pave the place to prevent anything from seeping into the groudwater. The big reason for the orderly display is the fact that, in there, you can't just walk in with your tool box and start ripping apart any old car. They will allow you to go in and have a look around the inventory but the staff does most all of the wrenching. There is a tradeoff for the quality of their parts, the prices are higher than your average help yourself places. I've never really found a bargain at Memory Lane.
it's unfourtunate i remember 10 yrs, even 5 yrs ago finding a 70-72 skylark was not super easy but find-able. but now there is not much aound. best bet for parts is buying cars out of the newspaper. just not enough cars sold to have a good 'junk' base of parts i guess
around here you not only get to walk through debris you also get to walk through waist high weeds, watch for snakes, rats and wasps. then you pick ticks off yourself for a week.
Some nice stuff at MM atm it seems.. True us Westerners have it nice compared to the Eastern folk... Memory Lane is also alot smaller then Pick-A-Part or U-Pick-Parts, so stacking makes sense.. One nice thing is MM doesn't charge you entrance fees like the other pickapart places.. If your up in Sun Valley junkin it for the day, it's worth the added trip to U-Pick-Parts on Penrose.. They have more Buick stuff then Pick-Your-Part does on Pendleton.. Reason? Memory Lane has a deal with PYP for Buick and other HTF items... Another note: MM also has it in good with a guy in Chicago who seems to swoop up everything before it's even laid in the yard... "If" you can find what you want at MM, it's pricey, but like Robert said, you don't have to get dirty... As to people looking for 70-72 Skylark parts... I hope to post tomorrow with images items I have for sale.. A teaser: Core Support, Inner Fenders, Bumpers, Hoods, etc.... Cheers -S
We have the same problem here too, but I haven't seen any snakes (thank God!) or rats. Problem is that anything more than about 20 yrs. old is such a bucket of rust from sitting maybe 10 yrs. or more outside in the yard, there's nothing good left on the car. Any car older than 15 usually gets crushed b/c the yard owners around here don't want to be bothered with stuff that might not sell. Once I needed the stainless roof edge trim and found 2 sets of perfect ones. Probably all that was left on those cars, the roofs were so rusty the edges nearly disentegrated in my hands. That's no exageration either. These cars are buried deep in the woods and I don't think even the owners remember they are there. Next time I'm in there I'll post some pictures if they are still there. You guys in the southwest have it made in the shade!
The last pic on page one is interesting. Looks like someone tried to mate a 59 or 60 front and roof with a rear clip from a 55 or 56? Or was that some kind of "trick photography"? Harvey
Looks like a 50's and 60's buick heaven junkyard. I wish the junkyard here had a buick section. all there cars are scattered around, no specific section. But one good thing about this junkyard is that it has a good mid to late 70's buick collection. I found two 1976 buick century's. one the same color as mine (carmine metallic red) and the other one has gray primer on it. If i had 50 bucks i would buy it from them, cause it would make a good parts car, good interior, good chrome, alot of good parts. They have more mid to late 70's buicks than any other kind of buick though.
Buick Bone Yard Heaven Great shots Jerry . . . almost like being there ! :bglasses: :TU: :bglasses: What a NEAT place ! Next time your back could yah make arrangements to have that 68 dropped off in my back yard ? Thanks Jerry.
Correct me if I am wrong, but this antique and classic car craze got started about 10 or 15 years ago. I think many 60's and older cars got crushed before this frenzy due to lack of demand for the parts.....If this craze dies like the CB radio craze of the late '70's did, the parts we have now that are valuable will decline in value when the craze dies. So far the popularity of antique and classic cars seems to get bigger every year.:Brow:
no rust.. can u belive it. originally i am from the east and until i moved out here a couple years ago i oculd never believe a yard like this could exist. :jd:

We have a few yards in FL like that. The reason they still have cars like that are their prices. Seen some prices and thought that would be good for the entire car not just one fender! Local U-pull-it yards still get many vintage cars and you just have to be patient here in FL. Seems the yards here are divided into two groups: 1. Strictly late model, full service, nothing older than 8 years, sell mainly to body shops. 2. U-pull-it, mainly older cars, cars more than 10 years old and trucks more than 15 years old, bring your tools and have at it. If you are looking for something, let me know. I hit the local yards every Sat. E-mail your needs/wants to GStage1@buickperformance.com Thanks!
