Does anyone have a picture of the Space Saver spare tire that was an option in 1970? And, are they available now? I'd like put one in the trunk of my GS.

Wow. Thanks for the detailed info. So, does the jack mount in a different position than with a full size tire? Is there another bracket or tie down?

    Yes,
The jack mounts under the tire for a regular wheel.

Duane , I didn't realize space savers were available/sold back in the early 70's .... are the inflator parts still reliable after this amount of time? Cool bit of GM history. learn something every day!....

A friend of mine had a 69 Boss 302 Mustang and he did not have the space saver spare for his car. I always looked for one at the car shows but never came up with one. Later I was "given" a 72 Skylark 2-door coupe, minus the drive train, and when we opened up the trunk there was a 69 Ford space saver spare.

At the time they were probably worth 250 but I drove up to his shop and handed it to him. You would have thought I gave him a million bucks.

Back to the Buicks, I have only seen a few cars with them. I think Joe Gusac's car (spelling) has one.

Unless your car came with one I don't know that I would look for one.

It is going to be an expensive outing to put one of those systems together, and I certainly would NOT want to use it even if I had to. It would be just for looks in today's world.

That's my thinking, Duane. Based on the cost I'll stay with the BFG spare that's in it now.

I had several late ‘70s Trans Ams that had them; I think I threw or gave them away and put full sizers in the trunks of the ones I drove. They used the white bottles.
