I'm biased about going with the Cortez Gold if you can live with it. See avatar.

Thanks for sharing the history of the car. It's now part of the provinance of the car with is part of the fun of owning the car.

As for having the transmission converted into a switch-pitch; there are swveral members of the board that can make the conversion. Check out the "juice-box" and all the discussions related to the switch-pitch.

Thank you for all the sacrifices you are making for the rest of us here at home.

I used to own a 72 Skylark (2 door post) back when I was 13. My dad bought it for me when we attended a car show/ auction. He said I could not drive it until I paid him back for it $2,200 I still think it was a good deal even back then.

Well rather than pay him back I decided to fix it up a little (When I got the car it was pea green with awesome green bench seat interior and almost NO rust.) I repainted it Apollo White. EMRON? single stage paint "the wet look". I did love that car!

I finally paid it off my junior year when I was 17. (Basic training money) I wrecked it when I was 19 :Dou: and she was totaled out. Even by today's standards.

Looking back on it is a shame (I got called a LIAR when I used it in Drivers Ed for the maintenance upkeep book) The instructor said ALL vin#'s are 18 digits long and even if it was the vin the car would be in a MUSEUM somewhere. last 6 were 100114 Possibly the first day of production for the 1972 model year.

    Man I miss that car!

On a more positive note that car was parted out and has been utilized in several of my past cars.

The rear end went to a 71 GS 350.
I still have the tinted rear Qtr tinted windows.
And both rear quarter extension panels are being used in this Stage 1 build.
the trunk lid was used on a 71 skylark and unfortunately was later parted out for the engine after they lost the keys to it. Someone took the screwdriver approach to the trunk lock. I do know where the trunk lid is now and is still in remarkable shape (except for the lock area).

Making me all emotional thinking about my first car but it was utilized on at least 5 others that I know of.

Any other suggestions out there on what color to paint this Stage 1

I am partial to Apollo white with gloss Black stripes
as well as Black with the Harvest gold stripes.

    Black Cherry is a contender
As is a blue Pearl over Apollo white.

Does anyone own a Post Coupe? I see none in the readers rides.
I would like to see what some owners have been doing with these.

    Any other suggestions?

Has a poll ever been done on the most desirable appealing colors?

    Yes another :TU:

That may have just changed my mind from Harvest Gold to Cortez Gold stripes.

The wife is chiming in with "paint it a pretty Blue"! She likes an almost translucent, Cobalt Blue Non metallic.

Anyone know of a car that is Apollo White with blue pearl?

    Speedy,
I know most people think "traditional" GSX stripes, what about something different, like an "American Musclecar Tribute":

YELLOW car; Dark RED (GSX) Hood & Fender stripes; WHITE (GSX) Door stripes; Dark BLUE (GSX) 1/4 panel & spoiler stripes!:idea2:
The Red hood stripes could be made to "wave" like the American Flag, even with "stitching" graphics...

I just thought of it, but my Stage 1 is already spoken for, with the Pearl White & Black; so that leaves a few other ones open for this paint scheme, if no one else tries it before I do (not that I expect anyone else will:bla: ).:bglasses:

Actually in my family (not mine) is a 67 Impala convertible. It was painted a dark red wine color and the hood and trunk lid are both satin black then he put some 1/2" Purple and surrounded by 2 (1/4") gold pinstripes down the length of the vehicle similar to very narrow racing stripes just inside of the dual exhaust then on the trunk he also painted a set of long narrow flames (about 6" wide)going up and over the back almost to the front of the trunk lid.

    Looks Old School Cool!

Your description sounds Piece meal to me Red hood, White doors Blue rear quarters with the Yellow stripes? Like the 70 AMX?
    With Buick stripes?

    Please clarify!

If I painted it white with the Blue pearl it would not have the GSX themed stripes.

It is a 70 so there were no GSX's that year done in Black and gold.

Painted White and with the Black stripes with a pearl coat sounds like the 70 GSX prototype to me.?:Smarty:

Ooor did you mean a yellow car with red/white and blue Buick GSX stripes.

Red up front. Fading to white then blue on the rear quarter's?

    Hmm interesting
(you thought of it/ Ill let you run with it.) Go Ahead!

    Base car: Yellow!
GSX stripes on hood & fenders: Dark Red
    GSX stripes on doors: White
GSX Stripes on 1/4s & rear spoiler: Dark Blue

If only I could do photoshop...:idea2:

Someone here posted a pic of a '70 GS in a seldom seen dark grey.
I really thought the car stood out with the colour & it suits the body style very well.
Base grey with GSX striping might look good.
Need to figure a complimentary colour scheme.
