I got a brand new TA 1537BHP coming next week to put on maybe the water pump isn't able to keep up anymore? My Champion AE161 aluminum rad is a 2 row 1" tubes, 50/50 mix with 1 bottle water wetter also. Unless my gauge is out of whack I'll have everything in the cooling system replaced. As you know Larry you and I have went through my timing twice to make sure it's all good so that's ruled out.

With the engine idling, what is your actual ignition timing? With all the guys I talk to, I can't remember.:D

If I remember correctly I set it a 12° initial, the DUI distributor has 22° built into it and then what ever the vacuum adds to it once plugged in.

Then the timing should be 12 + the vacuum advance. So at idle, your timing should be 22* minimum. Check that.

Just did a side by side comparison of the (new) smooth edged RC29 cap I got from CARS a few weeks ago with the scalloped edged one I'd been using since last year.

The spring on the new smooth edged one was almost fully open - and the car hadn't been run.

I put the other one back on but didn't really get to drive it long enough for it to heat up. I'll know better later this week.

Finally got a chance to check the car out some. I checked the fan clutch before and after I drove it and it spun the exact same way. It did not tighten up whatsoever after the engine was hot. That is probably why when I was stuck in traffic, it was overheating. There may be other issues and I will do some further checks. Does anyone know the GM part number for the fan clutch and where a good place to pick one up may be? Thanks for the help guys!

Pick one of the thermal fan clutches,

Just an update on the car. I replaced the clutch fan and no more overheating problems! I still plan on putting some gauges on it. After that problem was fixed the car was slow shifting out of first gear. After manually shifting it a few times and driving it awhile it started shifting normally.
