I have a 430ci 67 Riv with a new satge 2 Qjet. Im have a bit of trouble tuning it and was wandering if anyone has about the same setup or just knows what settings i should start off with. Secondly, what kind of HP would i be getting with this set up.

    engine specs
    rv cam
    headers
    Edl. performer manifold
    MSD ignition

everything else is pretty much stock

if theres anything else i need to list please tell me

Need more info to help you. What cam do you have(manufacturer ID and specs). Has it been rebuilt? Does it have the stock compression ratio? Kinda hard to give a HP estimate without knowing more. What's a Stage2 Q-jet? Can you give us the carb #(it's on the drivers rear side of the carb)

sorry for the hasty and under thought out post. Here are the specs i should have posted in the begginning

the only thing i know about my RV cam is that its above stock and bellow 3 1/4 (?) making it very mild i guess

The whole engine was recently rebuilt around christmas (hence the new cam).
Everything is steel hardened now and the ratio is 8 3/4 (?).

The Qjet is apparently oddball as i havent seen and post refering to this particular jet. I just baught it new from jet. Here are the specs because im not sure which # is the ID # in the back of the carb.

    stage 2 Streetmaster 750 cfm
recalibrated idle, off idle, main, accelerator pump and high speed circuits
its says its for street/ strip and towing vehicles

Im not sre what any of these measurements actually mean but thats all i know.

Also today while making a right turn and really getting on it to merge into traffic the car sputtered twice and I let up and resumed accel and it went away. I had recently realized that the vacuum advance hose was on the wrong carb port (oopsy) and i had been driving it like that for 3-4 months. So i fixed it and went to retune my carb with some help from a friend who has one on his 500ci Cadillac (1/8 mile ET 7.1!). and basically we set the idle lower and tweaked the eyelet screws on the frnt of the carb that have something to do with air flow... or something. As you can see im a newb so be gentle.

    OK,
Doesn't really help much, but I'll try. Jet rebuilds carbs, and if it is their Stage 2, should have richer metering. An RV cam is a cam that enhances low end torque, at the expense of high end horsepower. The stock 1967 430 had 10.25:1 compression, and made 360 HP and 475 lb ft of torque.

why is my compression so low? should i try and pick it up if possible?

what does the ID # look like. is it in a circle or is it only 2#'s like 88?

The only way to alter your compression is to change the pistons, or mill the deck surface of the block. Who rebuilt this engine? Maybe a previous owner? Are you sure of the compression. The carb ID # is on the side of the carb near the secondaries. It has 7 digits, like 7042240, as an example.

I just had it rebuild by a shop in San Diego but I really didnt know what to ask for so... i whish i had found this sight 5 months ago. I just called the rebuilder so im sure thats the rate. Is it exceptionally low for a buick?

i think the carb # is 17060558 but there is another # back their so tell me if this isnt right. No # that i can find back their is 7 digits.

The number is on the drivers side near where the throttle cable hooks up. It reads vertically.

The carb is a late 70's Q-jet. Can't tell much more than that. After 77 or so the carb #'s started with 170, and were 8 digits, instead of 704, and 7 digits. 8.75 compression is OK, you'll be able to run on pump gas for sure. Check with the rebuilder, he should have given you paperwork for the cam installed. That will tell you more.

That's a 1979 carb. Get the book Rochester Carburetors by Doug Roe, published by HP books. You can find it on Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com That book will tell you everything you need to know about tuning these carbs.

Dangerboy, if you're not doing anything weekend, go to the big three swap meet at Qualcom... Look for the SoCal GS club, great bunch of members, and very knowledgable. If your not too hung over tomorrow at 0600, is breakfast at Coco's on Mission Gorge Road, East of the stadium. Bring your Riv...

If this engine is really a 430, the 750 is too small. The 830 will be a better choice, especially on the street. The 750 will have the wrong primary metering to feed the 430. Ray
