I went to start my "72 Skylark yesterday evening and it sounded funny and kinda make a grinding sound so I checked the starter motor and found the nose housing was cracked. not in the mood for tv, I went to the parts store and picked up a new one and the counter guy said that that's not all that uncommon. he told me about trying a starter motor bracket? he said there should be a mounting bolt or hole where it goes someplace on the block, Srue enough when I reinstalled the was a playce what looks like a bracket could be attached.

Have anyone here used one of these brackets and where can I find one?

    Thanks Brad

Check your timing. If it’s too high you get a kick back that blows the nose off.
96 LT1 ministarters work well. Have to get new bolts

Thanks, I'll double check the timing. I've heard abouts the ministarters, I'll look into that. I know the original one and the one I replace it with are heavier than crap!

What aftermarket starter did you buy? I bought one from Year One and it didn't have the little threaded hole on top to mount my starter bracket too. Been searching for the right starter motor that has this extra hole for the bracket. Oh yeah, I have a 455 motor

I just went to O'reilly's and picked up and rebuilt standard size starter. I still want to try a mini starter but the one i put on is working fine.

I still haven't found a starter bracket. I'd sure like to since the standard starters ane so heavy they sure can use one.

    Thanks,

    Brad

Hey Brad, I was gonna say check with Bruno, but it looks like he responded as well....

I just stopped at Autozone and picked up a Duralast DL3570S starter. This one has the threaded hole on top so that I can mount the mini bracket to. Looks like I gotta figure out how to return the one I bought off Year One (has no hole). Let us know if you try that mini starter. I saw one on TA Performance but it was $$$. Maybe I'll have to try next time.

Use the starter for a 96 Roadmaster LT1 Chevy engine. It's a direct fit, may need to shim of course. Got mine from Rockauto and think it came with bolts or reused the originals

Just got back to this thread, it's been a busy week.

Paul, I've got so much family stuff going on right now it'll be awile before i get a change to work on the car so if Bruno still has the bracket feel free to get.

    thanks,
