Theres 2 to my knowledge, This is the smaller compact one that doesnt get in the way of the wires as much. It was the OEM brace off the '64 V6(Puke green). I had all this stuff buttoned up nice and went to put the motor in the car an no dice. Took it off the engine, installed the 455 and it still wouldnt fit. I had to take the solenoid off to get it in. Kripes! wooda sucked on a hot motor under the car! ws

Is this the part# 1378215? Obviously all starters are supposed to have this. Mine does not (just had it taken off in order to redo the oilpan gasket). I wondered about the heavy wheight, just being hold by two bolts.
It looks like I have to fabricate one bracket, as I doubt that there are to many still around. Don't wanna think about my knuckles installing the bracket with motor and exhaust manifold installed.

The engine assembly plant installed them. Difficult with engine in car for sure.

Interesting...I don't think I saw one of these on my motor.

According to my Parts Manual, it appears this bracket was used on all Buick V8 motors from 67 - 72. Starter Bracket.JPG

Bruno, If you have another one of these brackets, I would be interested in getting one from you. Please let me know and I will mail you a check.

When the first mechanic who changed the starter fought with that baby and saw what a pain in the ass it was it went right in the trash knowing the owner who be none for the wiser.

When I disassembled my engine, it had one on. When I put it back to together, I realized it could not be taken off again with the exhaust manifold on. So I didn't put it back on to make my life easier in the future (if I had to replace the starter). I seriously thought about the trash can, but threw it in that box of extra parts that you always end up with after working on something.

What kind of noise did they make when they hit the bottom of the bin?

I am confused.....where exactly does the bracket mount to the starter body? Is there a threaded hole there?
