While I agree that the engines have an issue, those cars get modified for more power then get the crap kicked out of them.
Sounds like it. Reminds me of when they canceled the warranty on my TurboRegal. Hard to get them to fix it after six or eight transmissions.
You have to read the whole article. If you sold the car they have to pay out of pocket expenses. Even if you don’t own it anymore.
Get em hot and the head gaskets like to go south. My sister says around her area in CT they call them Lesbarus. Car of choice for lesbians, apparently.....(except WRX and STIs, I would say)
The mechanics at work were replacing one of those motors. Not the WRX or STI models it was a wagon. I can’t believe how small they are. Looks like that motor can sit in your hands.
I spun some bearings on a bone stock wrx. Cost me a grand to get something else in there. Engine failures are quite known in the Subaru world. If it has a turbo it’ll have bearing or ring land issues. If it doesn’t have a turbo it’ll have head gasket issues. Still one of the best all around cars I’ve owned.
Head gasket issue was more on the earlier ones than the later. We have had multiple Subaru's and never had an issue. Of course none of my family's have been modified and run the piss out of either. I always went with the H6 on the ones I had. I think we have had 11 of them now in the last in the last 18 years. My daughters is the latest one, Red package special edition Crosstrek. Mom and Dad are getting ready to get rid of their 2004 Outback with 146K (went from the first tier car to the 2nd tier car about 6 years ago) and are looking at the Crosstreks. Always been reliable for us, and 2nd to none in the snow.
The NA 2.5 has had head gasket issues up until it’s last year. They have a special coolant additive for them. The new engine design seems to be far more reliable.
Time will tell I have had several 2.5 everyone eventually blew head gaskets ,the last one was a new 08 and they swore then that they had the headgasket problem fixed. 60 k miles later you know it. I was done after that with them. A local head shop does nothing but subaru heads keeps them busy full time.
