Quite frankly after reading the discription I was expecting a cleaner car. It would be nice to see it restored. I am going to guess that the reserve is somewhere around 65K could you recoup that and the cost of a good resto?

Is that door jamb overspray correct for a GSX? Wouldn't have thought Buick would have been that sloppy but maybe so.

On Eric Stodt's GSX, the stripes look like they were sprayed by a little kid in some spots. Especially sloppy around the door handles.

Thats nice and all that it's still in it's surviving condition, but look at the rot around the rear window, trunk weatherstrip gutter, and maybe more hiding.NTM,eng bay not that clean.I would def dissmantle and do a full frame off resto.
Survivor to be left alone for me would be just some light scratches, couple dings, and alittle cleaner, etc.IMO

    Rust in the fenders

    Holes around the rear window

Holes in the trunk by the bumper... and look at that chrome  Ive never seen one rot out there before.

And you'd think some effort would be put into cleaning the engine bay... A good scrubbing and wipe down would do wonders. Its a survivor, but well used and needs/deserves a full restoration

If you were going to re-do a car this is the condition you would want to buy it in.

It is a complete car and when wearing original paint there is nothing hidden. What you see is what you get, plus there would probably be minimal parts searching. This could be an easy resto.

Boy I was tired last night. I did not even see the BIN. So heres the question. you get the car for say 35K and deliver it to one of the known high quality restorers here, whats the total investment. Not so much for resale but you have to be within reason. Could you do this car for less than what you can buy a nice non stage 1 auto yellow GSX?
That said I would love to have it even with all those bad spots. My post was just that when I read that glowing description I just expected a better condition. If I were ever have the money for a resto of this kind I would probably look and pay more for a stage 1 car with a 4 spd. hell if your dreaming it matters not right?

I agree, I can pick the car apart all day saying this is wrong, there's a hole there or here... but Id sure love to have it parked in my garage :beers2:

and if you plan on keeping it whatever you put into it is not a factor, I know I'm already in my Riv for more than it's worth but I don't really care as I have no intention of selling it.

I hate to say it, but I feel 38,000 is a steal for THAT car, I think it is fantastic considering its' originality. Even is you doubled it, make a total investment for conversations sake 76,000-likely worth 10k more at a high end
    auction.

I understand but I would bet if you too it to a shop where they do good accurate restoration on a car like this you'll spend 60K or more to do it. Thats close to 100K total investment. I watched a coupe non stage cars at BJ bring less than 90K for good restored cars. Just one mans opinion here but IF I we inclined to sock a ton of cash into a GSX it would be one thats done so I can enjoy it. IF I had a shop that could do the work myself I would have bought the stage 1 X at BG this year it was in better shape for close to the same $

The gentleman who is selling this car is one of the nicest, honest, upfront and knowledgable men I have met in the Buick hobby. He has helped probably EVERY ONE of the Massholes and ANY Buick owner that asked him with parts, knowledge, cars, etc.
He lives close by and would be happy to look at the car for anyone.

    He will be sorely missed.

Let it be known I hope he gets the asking price or more than one bidder gets into a bidding war over it. While I am not an envious person I wish I was in the financial position to buy it and ship it to one of the qualified guys here for a frame off! I think it would make a great addition to any collection.
So the owner is getting out of the hobby?

No.. He is moving. He was at the GSX reunion @ BPG with a white, unrestored 70 GSX auto. He's been into Buicks for over 25 years. I remember driving past his house in the 80's seeing a QQ GSX, several 70-71 Stage 1's, GS's etc. Always 'rotated' his stock with trades, finds, etc.
I believe he is taking 'most' of his collection with him to CA. Per the ebay ad, he has to sell the X and his wife's GN for $$$.
    Solid, stand up straight shooter.
