I know I asked this year's ago when I did this to my wagon. I even looked at my wagon and didn't want to top apart the harness to figure out how I did it.

I removed the wire already out of my 65 skylark harness but want to wire it up correctly.

I read on line that a wire no longer needs to go to the R pole but my wagon I did run a wire to it. So I'm confused with that.

I also see that I did run a wire but I don't know which one I did to the original plug hole on my harness that the resistance wire went to.

I don't know where I need to tie in the wiring. I would like to reuse the place in the harness that the R wire went to.

Do I just run a hot wire to the distributor and forget the R pole at the starter?

I know it has to be a hot wire when the key is on.

    Any help us appreciated.
    Thanks.

This may or may not be helpful, but the guy I bought my Firebird from just stabbed an HEI distributor in the car to get it running, but wired the resistor wire into the distributor. To get a full 12 volts to the HEI, I wired in a relay like this. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but it's been running for two years like this (knock on wood). I ended up wiring #30 on the relay straight to the positive terminal of the battery because the starter is old and I didn't want to poke the bear if I didn't have to.

I used some heavy gauge wire, either 10 or 12...FYI.

Thanks.... I was looking for this info on a search but missed it....

I wonder what I did on my wagon because I have a wire I made that goes to the R pole.

Now I need to figure out what wires on the plug for the external regulator I have to jump to use an internal regulator .I thought m&m had a plug to solve that issue bit I can't find it .

Brian, IF you do not want to mess with changing or adding ANY wires you can install the Lectric Limited brand electronic conversion kit.

This simply replaces the points in your factory distributor and works with all the factory wiring.

If this is something you want to learn more about you can see the kit and pictures of it installed on my website. Here' a direct link >

Just an option I thought I would share with you. I stock the kits and have them priced below retail.
