Florida is extremely lax about prosecuting and punishing for fault, no driver license, no insurance or no registration if there is a criminal history of the perp. There just is no money in it for the state so they let them walk.
Because of thie high media profile he may get jail but will never have to make restitution of any sort.
I know because I've had it happen twice to me, lost two vehicles and both times the perps walked away with minimal tickets totaling less than $250 even though both had outstanding warrants, no insurance or registrations and both had stolen tags.
Florida LE's and judges could care less.

Man, the more I learn about this incident, the more horrible it is. Very sad.

They just upgraded the charges on this POS to two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide.

Hearing this makes me sick to my stomach. Two precious lives cut short and a beautiful old ride destroyed. It's a blast of shock, sadness, and anger all at the same time. My thoughts and prayers to the victims families.

Safety belts did nothing for the driver. The steering wheel was pushed clear back to the back window.

The owner of the El Camino is from the same town as myself. Never really met him, but seen him around town with the car. A very tragic way to go for both individuals.

Having had a way too close call in this type of accident, my sympathies are with the families of the deceased. Being a Florida resident, I also agree with Mikey.

This has to be one of the most heartbreaking stories I've seen in a long, long time. A guy has decided to sell his pride and joy for many years, which, for whatever his reason for it has to be one of the hardest decisions he's had to make in a long time, and he no doubt wants to see it go to a good home. The guy from WI is no doubt really excited about the prospect of buying a car like that, one he's likely been dreaming of for some time, leaves home to go check the car out, his family probably excited for him, and then these poor guys, who it seems to me had everything to live for end up being snuffed out by some low life who has nothing to live for. The car hobby has now lost two great guys and one fantastic car all for what? I sincerely hope that kid never breathes another breath of fresh air for the rest of his life. Personally, I'd like to see him hung upside down in the town square next to a table with an assortment of sharp objects for which anyone who has the desire to poke little holes in him until he finally starves to death. My heart goes out to the families of these men. What an incredible waste of human lives brought about by an incredible example of human waste.

It makes you wonder why one and not another? Why a POS walks when two honest souls perish? There is no logic and there is no sense. I asked this question many times over during my life and there just is no right answer. It just hurts.

    Shocking. Sickening.

And the killer was a woman-hater.

    Words fail me.

Just keep puttin em in jail where we pay for thier medical, clothing, food, housing and cable tv.
I'm glad I pay the least amount of taxes that I legally can, because this is where your tax dollar goes, to incarcerating garbage . No deterante , no justice, just money outta good working folks pockets.
The liberal pansies care more about the perpetrators of heinous crimes than thier victims. I say create justice and deterentes by lining em up and shooting them. I'm with Ron White on this , " put in an express line" and start the executions. We can start with this waste of life . No one willing to pull the triggers? I gut a buncha good ole boys who won't even flinch.....Jim

My condolences to the true victims of this unnecessary crime, the remaining spouses and family....
