Awesome story Ryan, congratulations on your find and purchase. I look forward to reading more about it.
As others have posted, the other car, the chopped GS in the story needs to be saved for a future reunion with your car.

This whole story and as it unfolds is very cool and the other cool part is that BeatersRus knows where the other car is and has plans to buy and store it from what I'm reading.

If BeatersRus buys and plans to put it back together, and posts a list of all of the parts needed, as a community we could come together to help make it happen. What a story.
I know I would donate and ship any parts needed that I have to help make it happen! Could even start a rebuild fund $$. Looking at the pictures of it, sure it needs a lot of love, but look what Mark Worman is doing with cars he's fixing that are worse!!

I like the idea of a community funded restoration. Photo and video document the story from weeds to wherever it leads.

It may be too far gone to get back to original show condition without a huge investment and by then it would probably have lost its character but bringing it back one piece at a time with parts and funds from the community would be cool.

being a Pittsburgh guy both of these cars as near to my heart. I would definitely donate labor if the car is built in the Pittsburgh area.

Too late. They should have taken better care of it but saving a car that is that far gone just doesn't make any sense to me.

With all the cracking bondo it looks like it was done very poorly. It will need extensive metal work and what will it be worth in the end? Wicked cool car but will need 50-60k and won't be an easy sale once finished.

I say make it a roller and leave it as is. Maybe even throw a used 350 in it and get it to the point of a runner. If anything, its a good conversation piece

Gotta come up with a new term from the "THEN" generation instead of rat rod; ...Roach Coach is already taken. Hmmm. ws

Like I said before - probably way too far gone for a full restoration but would be cool to save from further decay and obscurity.

We could always name it Christine...

At least it sounds like he treats his wife better than he treated that car.

I'd be curious how it went from a show car to sitting in a field. Im sure it was a nice car when he sold it.

It would be cheaper to recreate it than to save it. Cool car, though, very swoopy! The chopped roofline makes it look a little like a Torino.

Yes Mogan is the man that built the Chopped GS. I told him about V8Buick and it looks like he has joined. The stories behind both cars are waaay too cool.

    Well, this is getting interesting......

What I'm saying is the car needs to be saved........not restored to the tune of $50K to $60K.

Here's a car that's part of a great story with a cool history along with Ryan's car. It went off the grid 33 years ago, hasn't been crashed, crushed or shredded. Someone inquired about its whereabouts, it's been confirmed, the builder wants it back and a member here knows where it is.

This car was with Ryan's in the early 80's. Luckily Ryans went into a garage. Unfortunately this one had a different path or it would still look as nice as Ryans.

The car should be saved even as others said if as a roller or driveable and like I mentioned earlier if I have any parts that it needs, I'll gladly ship them to whoever gets this car.

I've been hoping someone would see the same thing I did :). When I saw the pics in the other thread, I thought the same thing, 70-71 Torino. And that's a compliment.

It's uncommon for a car that was in the show circuit like it was to end up in the condition and location it is in

I'd wager strongly that the original builder never drove the car and sold it for pretty big money. Whoever got it probably drove it some and all that 3" thick bondo started cracking and shrinking. These cars bend and flex like crazy when driven and the panels started splitting. The second owner probably realized that it would be big $$$ to fix and gutted the car.

Even if it wasn't driven, that much bondo will eventually shrink and crack leaving the owner in the same predicament. Huge money to fix properly and it probably looked like an aerial photograph of the grandcanyon. Candy ass red is all but impossible to match too.
