Dear Pure Stock Participants and Fans.
After considerable thought, we have come to the difficult decision to terminate the race after the 2010 event. Our decision was not based on any one person or event, but a multitude of issues that have challenged us for the past several years. Despite all our efforts to try to resolve these issues fairly, we discover that they just get worse. It is unfortunate that a number of cars are built outside the spirit of the event, even after talking directly with those involved. Our wishes fall on deaf ears. This race has lasted sixteen years now, far longer than any other race, and far longer than we ever expected. However, the end had to come sooner or later. We are tired of all the bickering, finger pointing, and name calling. And tired of the rules being pushed to their elastic limits, and interpreted for ones own personal gain. This event used to be fun, even for the both of us! Well, a few overly competitive minority has spoiled it for the grass roots majority. It is with deep regret that we've come to this conclusion, but we are not happy with the race in it's current form, and we don't see any way of fixing it without making major rule changes. We thank all of you for your long time support over the years, and especially to those of you who came for all the right reasons. You know who you are.

    Sincerely,
    Bob Boden
    Dan Jensen

    Wow, truly a sad day...

I figured the rule-breakers/benders would get tired of the scene and take their cars to some other venue (maybe F.A.S.T-oriented).

I believe there's quite a few PSMCD car projects in the works and many more a few years away as the Boomers retire and look for something to do in their spare time. So I do hope some fresh blood can step up and create something similar to this event in the not-too-distant future.

It was truly a great event Bob and Dan that was a BIG part of many lives. Thanks for making it happen and keeping it going as long as it did!

I honestly hope you guy`s change your mind :( :( and it might not be the exact same for a few of the racers but we would try and pick up that race (same time/same place) to give the guy`s a venue to race at in the Fall. Sorry to hear the news.

I'm truly sad about this, but I'm not running the show - just announcing!

So what's a guy to do? Make lemonade out of lemons!

We've got a few months till September. What can we True Believers do to help the event evolve for September, 2011? We each have a skill set that can be used to put on a show . . . and give Bob and Dan the benefit of being participants without the stresses that come from running the event. Not all of us have cars that we race, so why not put on your thinking cap, get creative, and we can discuss? We've got plenty of time to plan, right?

Maybe it won't be the same event? The hobby is different and we're all a little bit older, so it stands to reason. How can we take the equity of this event and the hobby and make it better?

Thanks for 12 great years, Bob and Dan. But like you said, Bob, all things must come to an end eventually...It was fun growing with the group and the hobby is much better for what you did.

I am here to help out with any thing needed to continue this race. I like the idea of making it a combo fast/purestock race, the fans like it!! Maybe we could add another race at Milan?? I still like the idea of the thursday/friday week of the woodward dream cruise week!! My buddy already gets the track on thursday and we could piggy back it. The name of the race may have to change, but the theme will continue in one way or another.

This is really a shock. I knew about some of the issues, but I never thought it would be the end of the line:shock: I've been pushing the principals behind the Pure Stocks for years to everyone. Do the best with what the factory gave you. I love these cars and I was really thinking that you guys were a big part of keeping the Muclecars Era alive. Maybe something can be combined with the FAST guys to keep it going and take some of the pressure off of you? Anyway Thank for all that you have done for this hobby!:beers2:

Just a side note: KIDDSIXPACK and I were talking about this and thought that maybe a Pure Stock Show and Go may work. No real rules just have the event at a race track. Show if you want and race if you want. It would be a blast and you can run whenever you want for a few hours. Is it possible to have the track available for maybe 6 hours while the venue is open all day?
Make it a one day deal.

Sounds to me like it already is, which also seems to be the reason why Dan and Bob want out. I could be wrong but the way it was explained when the thread started, there are a few too many trying to use FAST rules in PS. I feel that running both at the same event will end up being nothing more than a blurr between the two.

I don't know all the rules with PS but I do know there are allowances, like exhaust, a little leeway on cams, traction devices, etc. IMO, Pure Stock means exactly that, Pure Stock. Show up with a car exactly the way it came out of the factory and you can race. Anything else and you don't get in. Either that or have a class for modified, but then you're getting into more gray areas that will never end.

I feel bad for Dan and Bob. They have put the hearts and souls into this event for so many years only to have people continue to cheat. Sorry if that sounds harsh but that's exactly what it is......cheating.

    Thank you Dan & Bob.
This race gave me direction and focus when I was at a point in my life where I was lost.
I went through, and was going through some rough times when these events were in their infancy, and I was invited to attend with a friend.
I'm proud to say that I've been a part of this for the last 11 years, and at the same time I'm sad and have that "lost" feeling upon hearing this new's.

At the end of the day it's your event to do with as you wish, and if your wish is to end it, that will be the end of it.
But, if you do decide to make drastic changes to the rules in an attempt to save the event, I think you would be shocked at how many people may be willing to go along with drastic changes to still have a sandbox to play in.
People are either going to play by your rules, or they don't play.

Time to get rid of the playground bullies, and if they don't like it, TUFF ****!(pardon the french)

Whatever the two of you choose to do, I support your decision.
Thank you for a great many years of Friends and enjoyment.

Maybe it's time to build the rat rod/straight axle nostalgia rod I've been thinking about?

What can be said? How do all of us -or any of us- adequately express our sincere thanks for all you guys have done in staging this race and your wonderful, dedicated promotion of our mutual hobby and passion?

I know I speak for all the Studebaker guys when I say that your event has been so very special for us, and we appreciate it more than you will ever know. We knew in 1963 and 1964 that Studebaker was engineering and building some genuinely fast cars, and had made competitive cars for years even before that.

But the reality was that few people (OK; nobody) had the resources to campaign the 1963 and 1964 Avanti-engined cars, especially Studebaker Corporation itself, operating on the greased skids on which it was functioning after 1952. (Think of some of the gorgeous full classics of the 1930s; magnificent cars built by companies that were going broke and would soon be out of business despite the automobiles they produced.)

I still remember the initial telephone call I made to you in April 1998, Bob, responding to an announcement about the race in Muscle Car Review. You were so welcoming of the Studebakers, and genuinely excited to have us bring them. I'll never forget your kindness and enthusiastic attitude toward our cars, and I'll never let anyone else forget it, either! :Brow:

Hey; 'see you in September...and thanks again ever so much for all you guys have done for the hobby. :TU:

I'm really going to miss this. Thanks for the unbelievable time and effort. Sad part is the folks who forced you to make this decision, will blame someone else. It's impossible to police the parts completely with this many variations.

    Well that sucks.....
I support your decision and wish the "bullies" would just take their toys and go home! God bless both of you for your efforts!

First of all: THANK YOU to Dan and Bob for giving us this venue allowing us to vent our appetite for speed for the past 16 years!

It is too bad that a few bad fish have spoiled the whole kettle. So much for doing this in the “spirit” of the event. I don’t care what anybody thinks, but ~almost~EVERYONE runs with an “edge” at this event and it was one of the accepted nudge-nudge-wink-wink things that made the event fun and kept it interesting for both racer and spectator alike. However, some have chosen to REALLY push the rules' limits and look where it has ended up.

Dave and Terry are to be commended for offering to possibly take over the event for 2011. That would be great to see the PSMCDR tradtition continue. HOWEVER.........I would only suggest that in the event that F.A.S.T. does run the event for 2011, that you keep the 2-out-of-3 format intact for the entire PS field. I feel the F.A.S.T. F/S Quick 8 elimination ladder has, in part, contributed to the need for some racers to go above and beyond the rules to just serve their pride.

The PSMCDR has been more about fellowship, co-operation, and having a good time with family and friends. I hope that tradition continues after the 2010 event this September. :Comp:
