Hello all, my last thread I posted a major blow with my 455 having multiple cracks and defects. Now I’ve moved on to my 430 engine and it’s checked out great!!!! My next decision is do I go with forged pistons or the pistons that were pulled out of the short block. I’ve tried to do some research on the pistons which the part number inside the skirt is B528 with 40 stamped on the opposite inside skirt as well. So far I think I have Keith Black hypereutectic pistons. Does anyone know much about the pistons, they seem to be in good shape and I would like to re-use them to save money. I’m doing a borderline stock re build with a ta 212 cam install along with new headers plus a b4b intake. If I should go forged pistons or a different hypereutectic pistons I need to order them now to stay on schedule. This would be used for daily driver with a little kick to it if anyone should pull next to me and want to try something. Please give me some information and thoughts. I appreciate it greatly.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Those pistons should be fine. I'd carefully inspect the ring lands, etc. If they check out, run them. I have them in my 302 and they have a bunch of 150 nitrous runs on them.

with the 40 on the side I would assume that they are for a 40 over bore. If you don't need to bore your block over that much then I wouldn't use the pistons. I would find pistons to match what you bore the block to.

The .40 is on the inside skirt, how would someone measure the pistons to be sure?

I would hold back on reusing those Pistons again as long as the check out good, in specific the ring land clearance!
That being said the comparison of Pistons in a 302 and with the added stroke of a 430 can not be made Apples to Apples!
A piston in a 430 at 4900 rpm is seing the same G force loads as the piston in a 302 at 7000 , and this is without a 150 shot of nos!
If you where going to do such with your 430 then if it where me it would be forged piston time for sure!
