1969 GS 400 hardtop kinda of a survivor project.

Bought this as a roller 20 years ago and it has been in dry storage ever sense. I got it out this fall and it will be this years project. My goal is not to restore it but just to put it back on the road. It is kinda like looking at a time capsule. My first GS was a 69 400 I bought for $400.00 in 1975. It was a low miles car but very rusty. I did fix it and moved on to collecting other cars and Buicks. Here are a few pictures of the car as I am doing the removal of the front end and going to install the drive train. I will add to this as I go along and give you some history of the car and more pictures of the rust free body. The car as only 44673 miles on it. Thanks Bill.

very nice...I think it would be nice to have that piece of history....Don't quote me on this but I believe I read somewher the 1970 GSX was like 4400.00 and with the S tage 1 option around 5400.00......I am sure someone can get it closer, but a darn nice piece you have there.....Good luck with getting it on the road..Dave

Stage 1 was not anywhere near 1k. On my Suncoupe it was 317.00 option and that was in 72. My total was 5340 but that had AC for 357 and auto trans for 224 and the Sunroof and roof trim option was 360.00 ( more than the stage 1 option)

That Jerry Smith badge is awesome. You should reapply that after it's painted. It adds to the character imho.

presto I think the color is called Antique Gold.

Ken at this time I am just trying to get it back on the road and not repaint or restore it, but I agree if you did repaint it the badge should go back one.

Got the gas tank off and 20+ year old gas is somewhat solid. I will need a different tank and sending unit. Think I have one.

This car was an old race car at one time. I will post some pictures of what they did to it, nothing real bad for a drag car, and a old posting in the GSCA when it had a for real Stage 2 motor. Look at the GS X-TRA Nov/Dec 1987 top of page 5 this is the car. I DID NOT get the motor, more to follow, thanks Bill.

Somewhere in the mid late 80's someone took the stock engine and trans out and put a stage2 motor and a 4 speed in this car. The also put GM 4.78 gears in the stock 8.2 rear. I did not see or get the stage 2 motor, I did see the 4 speed and did get the rear end. The only things they did was drilltwo 1/2 inch holes in the trunk and mount a ele fuel pump. They cut a hole in the floor for the 4 speed. I have tack welded a new one and need to finish. They mounted the fuel block on the drivers side fender. They welded radiator holders on the core support. See attached pictures and the one from the GS extra, NOv.Dec 1987. The owner at that time must have been a GSCA member because the picture was sent in with renewal dues. Thanks Bill.
