Sorry I missed out this fall. Football schedule and life seem to be redirecting how I have fun. No problem. One day the kids will be gone and the cars will be waiting and ready to turn tires in anger again.

In the mean time my younger daughter is getting close to racing age. She still gets her speed quenched by ski racing, mostly out west anymore, leaving her in MI far less then I wish. But her love of speed, cars and the desire that they should be shifted with a clutch has taken me in a familiar but truly new direction IHRA Mustang GT 18.JPG IHRA Mustang GT 11.JPG IHRA Mustang GT 20.JPG

We bought an '88 Mustang GT five speed so she can go racing in the IHRA Pure Stock class. It runs G/PS class. The rules are actually much stricter than ours and cars tend to be budget builds in this class. The entire car with IHRA G/PS National ET and MPH records in hand cost less than a set of RA IV heads and intake. It did ultimately need the motor freshened as several cylinders leaked down over 40%. The HP factor just dropped and the car can now run about 110 lbs. lighter or about perfectly what it weights with my daughter in the seat. Motor is freshened and painted. It is ready to drop in and the car is essentially ready to do battle again this spring.

We need to get new race numbers and window graphics for her. And she will get her NHRA/IHRA Jr. license in the spring as she will be 15. It allows her to race the 1/8th mile in a limited time frame. The NHRA limit allows a 9.00 flat ET.

I figured some of you old slick guys might get a giggle out of combining sticky tires and PS racing. This entire project cost less than a PS drivetrain for our beautiful old classics. That is the nice thing about 5.0 parts and cars being so prolific. This nice 33K mile original paint car hit the track for $7500!!!

I hope to see all of you in June, and not miss Saturday this time due to a wounded ride.

    Happy Holidays

Sounds like it should be fun. Good looking car for a first time racer.

Casey, you are right, it is the Viscome car. Nice low mile car. It was worn out after all the years of racing. Everything but the shocks and struts were factory Ford parts. All the bushings/mounts were twisted, torn or crumbling. I had hoped for turn key to get her started but it didn't work out that way. Once we got going we found we needed to keep going. In the end it means that it will be fresh and little that has any passes on it left. That will make it dependable and ready for a new driver.

Tim, I hope it is fun. I was excited that another young person wanted into drag racing. My son is 11 and he asks when is it his turn to race the minivan? He likes making fun of the car.

Hopefully there will be a time when she can race one of the old muscle cars too with us.
