I think it's a win-win. If you can run a 11.49 or below at Stanton and the track owner sends you packing well before the event is over... well then you have nothing but time on your hands to tear it down and prove it's legal.:Smarty:

I don't believe that anyone running under 11.49 would even come close to proving the car is legal.

Been there, done that, got the jacket to prove it.

I don't see any smilies so I'll assume this post wasn't meant as a joke...but that doesn't mean I didn't chuckle when I read it!

That is almost verbatim of what the very first certification was like (or intended to be), except you left out the part about a jacket and a decal. But the thing was spun out of control before we ever unloaded at Tiemann's shop because a single car was built to NHRA specs (when everyone else had used advertised), which allowed the dominant minority to set the tone for future events...and bring this event to the tipping point you see now.

I guess a top quality set of brakes will be in order for those with top quality engines.....

.....or maybe they will choose to blip the throttle somewhere around mid track so they will still be able to run a buck twenty five without going quicker than 11.50.

Maybe now instead of a jacket, they give you a t-shirt as a concession. It will read
" I blew ALOT a money got kicked out and all I got was this lousy T-shirt !"

Thank God I'm chasing 14's now-a-days. All the ego-maniacs can go get in a circle and see who is the "pivot man". I'm with the Brian "I don't give a damn anymore" Club. It's just more fun .... I take my car EVERYWHERE......drive-thru's, work, to the store. Hell, it's just as much fun. I've got an NOS AC compressor on the shelf that I am toying with hooking back up so that I can be in the cozy confines of AC whilst coming back on the return road. :bla:

Working AM/8-Track ---- Zeppelin in the house ........

  7. Do it! I refuse to ditch my AC and power steering. I want to swap in a tilt column eventually as well. I plan to spend 99% of the time drving it on the street, and 1% of the time racing. Might as well have all the creature comforts. :TU:

    Tim,

You talk about Max effort purpose built like it's a bad thing? It is a drag race right?

I think it's better to just come out and say you have a problem with the cheaters.

As soon as one guy cheats the next guy thinks if he's getting away with it so will I.

It seems I said this somewhere before.

I don't know if you can really call it cheating, and I, for one, don't see anything wrong with purpose built race cars. But if these cars were anywhere near pure stock, as the name of the drag race suggests, there would be no need to be worrying about being asked to install a roll bar. Just sayin'.......

Ed , I have ALWAYS had a problem with cheaters. I'm not hiding anything, I think I've made that clear over the years. Sometimes it's better to be an a$$hole but be respected for standing by an opinion rather than a wishy washy a$$ kisser.
Some people find that abrasive, some people find it refreshing. Even some of my Past supposed enemies will still call me for an honest opinion.
My opinion is Gray areas and pushing the limits are for F.A.S.T. class. The same opinion of 1QIKTA

BUT that isn't what this was about. This isn't about one or two people building a car. It really is about ,What are you gonna do when asked to leave after one run My Buddy asked the question at the track Banquet. He got an Honest answer. Are they gonna be a whiny little girl and throw a temper tantrum, because I just put a crap load of money into a project and drove a long way. Or accept it like a man. load up and leave.
This lady deals with people of that opinion EVERY week and makes swift cut and dry- it is what it is- decisions all the time. It won't be up to Bob & Dan probably Lucky for them. Because they don't want to be the Bad Guys, and i understand that. The rules are the rules , are you going to find her new insurance when they drop her and the track.
Bragging about running 11.20s is NOT going to help out Keeping our race. It's only gonna make it worse.
Once again just my opinion though.
But None of these where meant as personal attacks.

Well, speaking comfortably from a 14 sec. row, I'm just thankful they came up with the Rule long ago (and enforced it strictly) that no ZL1 Corvettes can race, 'cause that would have just ruined purestock.

    ... wait for it...

Good thing there is no rule that you have to be faster than the quickest pure stocker to run in FAST.

Thats a tall order as it is.

I have no issue with a max effort car, especially a 4 speed car. I would love Rick to show us the motor before it is sealed up , but that isn't going to happen.i think the hemi bird has everything going for it and will run a low number as it should, I would expect nothing less from the combination, speaking of the combination, what are the cam specs for the 68 hemi and being that it is a hemi 4spd car, did they all come with a Dana? And while I am at it, how much did they weight

We would lose half our cars.. :Do No: Jimmy's car went 125mph at Stanton, at MIR my guess is 10.80's@126.8 that's hauling Pure Stock mail baby!

Two years ago BK was running 11.50's at Milan (as stated in HHM) i seen the pass and right then and there i guessed 11.20's were possible in a 100% legal Hemi stocker. Pull Bobs engine, add a solid cam, install it in a 68 b-body with radio/heater delete and tuned with-in a inch of it's life. This may be hard to grasp for some, but what if ?? somebody could built a better engine than Bob?? Ray Barton would be that guy, there's a chance Rick's car may be a pretty fast pure stocker..

The 68 B-body Plymouth and Dodges are the lightest Hemi cars built, all Hemi 4-speeds came with a dana axle. I'm not that far into my Hemi but the lift on Key's car was .460 at the valve on the exhaust. I think the 68's have at least .020 more lift at the valve. I can't recall Jim intake lift, maybe .480? I'll have to check the other spec's... To many engines, to many...
