Picking up a 68 Skylark Custom in a few days and someone put the 15" chrome wheels on it. What's the recommended tire size for this combo? Thanks Jeff
The only 15” combo on the GS was 1970-72; it was a G60. That tire was about 26 1/2” tall, at least 8” wide and roughly equal to a 245/60/15. 255/60 probably fits, is a little bigger, but needs eyeballing on the rear. I’ve seen people run 235/60 and 225/70 but they’re a little outside the oe height (235/60 shorter, 225/70 taller/narrower). 215/70 is the right height but is narrow. Patrick
The first number is the tire width from sidewall to sidewall. The 225 is 225mm is 8.9” , the 245 is 9.6”. (That’s the tire’s widest part; it tapers to the tread but the tread width corresponds to overall width) Either one is fine on a 7” or 8” rim. Both sizes were factory installed on each width wheel somewhere in GM’s history. Patrick
Thank you all for your feedback. I know the 70-72 GS cars didn't have radials, and didn't know the P equivalent, but also wondered about clearances with the low, straight-cut rear wheel openings on the 68-69 models Thanks Jeff
245/60/15 works great on Buick rallies (as shown by the pics posted) on a stepchild. 255/60/15 seems to fit, too. A G60/15 is actually wider than the 245/60/15 and they fit, too. Patrick
