Had my 71' skylark restoration on the road a couple of times. The body made contact with the outside face of the 295's on the drivers side. I opted to add a set of Air Lift air bags inflated to 26 pds which lifts enough to stop any rubbing. Do I still need to add a sway bar to prevent lateral movement?
sway bar is meant to reduce up & down movement of the control arms. However, the way the sway bar mounts to the lower control arms it can reduce side to side movement. are u control arm bushings in good shape?
An anti-sway will try to keep the rear end squared up under the car. To that end, it should reduce the articulation and keep the wheels & tires within the wheel wells better.
Here's my 2 cents - My rear tires rubbed when cornering. I added an OEM sway bar and the rubbing stopped. I did not change springs or shocks or add bags. If the tire rubs all the time a sway bar will not help.
I would still have some sort of sway bar on the back. It reduces body roll,and improves handling. It can help keep everything squared under there,to prevent contact,but it won't decrease the actual straight up&down movement,if you hit a dip or bump.
Agree with Brian - It's a great upgrade. You want to make sure the front bar is bigger than the rear, so size accordingly. Of course you will want to use boxed rear lower a arms vs spacers. That of itself will help stabilize the rear, so again, it's a great upgrade.
