I am looking to do a cam swap on my street/strip 400 ci. I have stock edelbrock heads on and I currently am running 390h. I have found a buick stage2 cam never run. Can I stay with the edelbrock springs or replace to lower pressure? Want to do true stage2 engine on my 69. Mike

I think the springs commonly installed on Edelbrock Buick 455 heads are good to .600 lift, so I say yes. Where did you get the heads? Check with whoever put them together?

Thanks Larry, they are new from edelbrock. My only concern is it too much pressure or, will it be fine with the springs edelbrock put on them?

Too much pressure? I doubt it. my springs are 145/370 with a roller cam. From what I can find, the Edelbrock springs are 120/? Can't find an open pressure spec. Too much spring pressure is not a concern, too little is. Not enough and the valves can float at higher RPM. I wonder what valve springs Buick put on the iron Stage2 heads?

As Larry said too much pressure is not a concern. However if they are double springs I'd remove the inner for cam break-in. I think the Stage 2 cams just used the Stage 1 springs because the Stage 2 cam didn't go over .500" lift. IIRC there has been some warnings about these heads possibly having tight valve guides and that should be checked before install.

Thanks Larry and Mike, That answers my question. From what I am seeing from old buick stage 2 parts book they used same stage 1 spring. I have not heard about the possible tight valve guides though. I will have the heads gone through during cam swap.
