    Gentlemen ... I have a question;

What is the expected TOP-SPEED of a 10-compression 462 Buick Regal with TA-Performance long-style headers, GN posi rear with 3:42 gearing, Edelbrock Performer Intake port-matched to Iron Stage-1 Heads, TA290-08H cam with 238/248 duration, Th400 automatic 3-speed TOTALLY BUILT for the Buick 455 ... with @ 2800-stall converter. I have stock Turbo Regal Special-T aluminum wheels & tires.

    I would appreciate ANY times & experiences.:TU:

    Thanks much.

Thanks for the reply:TU: ... "Top Speed on a Road in the Middle of No-where (lol)."

If we assume you will be rpm limited and not power limited, with zero torque converter slippage and a 27" tire, you'll be travelling at 152 mph at 6500 rpm.

Thanks mucho. I do not understand "zero torque converter slippage."

I would guess the 152 MPH ought to be the good hypothetical speed. :kodak:
    .
However, my daughter worked for Amigone Funeral Home for 10 years (Am I Gone) - Got It ? We still have some connections there. :Smarty:
    .
I'd magnaflux (IS THAT A WORD ?) all the steel underside of that 60's car before I'D TAKE IT ANYWHERE over 110 mph. :Do No:
    .
However, if you would wanna go zooming up to 140 MPH or 150 MPH in a 60's dated set of steel parts - well, before you leave on the trip I could sell you some nice pre-planning stuff :TU:
    .
If on the other hand, this is all just "talk", well then I'd withdraw my offer.

Make sure you post the youtube for us :pp

My guess is 140ish before you run out of fuel and or power. What carb and fuel system do you have?

My old '81 Parisienne with a similar sounding build (pont 455) went 147 with 2-4 rear end gear with 28" tires and t-400.

All torque converters have a percentage of slip in them because they basically are fluid couplings and not mechanical couplings unless you have a lock-up converter. A stock or mild stall converter will have low slippage while a higher stall converter would generally have higher slippage. I'm guessing at least 300 rpm slip with your 2800 stall. I'm going to say just short of 140 mph because you have no headwork to talk about and you will run out of HP and/or rpm when the wind starts building up so the car will just stall there.

Without a lockup converter your tach won't really tell you what you're doing because of that slip. Whatever it says when you hit your limit it is something less. The only way is to get yourself a GPS or a device that has one or maybe get the Highway Patrol to help you out with their radar.

Also hang on up there because the car will start to float.

Mike; Thanks very much ... again. For some reason, when you speak ... I FEEL LIKE I AM IN AUTOMOTIVE SCHOOL (your knowledge is very appreciated ... sure and straight-forward).

The "over-140 mph floating issue" I really appreciate. I want to know the car's limits, enjoy the car, and survive the car. Back in 2000 when I was on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn running against a unidentified Porsche (928, 911, Carera????), I took that 462Regal (3:73 GN posi rear, Stage-1 heads, stock intake/exhaust manifolds, stock tranny and 2-1/2" true duals) to 5,200-rpm. I pulled away from that Porsche 4-times from 3500-5200-rpm as soon as he got to my rear bumper (he was trying ... we all heard his motor reving). Scotty at Pee-Gee's told me my Regal was at @ 150-mph. I also had 14" wheels on it.

Thanks for the "411", Mike. I copy and paste valuable info like this.

    Lata.

I had no clue):eek2:.

MIKE, I THANK YOU ONCE MORE. :TU::3gears:

Thanks again, M-RUNNING. I have a 1973 Buick 455 Rochester (totally rebuilt/rejetted for the motor ... as told to me by Dan Smith).

The fuel pump is TA-Performance's Street/Strip Mechanical fuel pump.

No, if your tach says 5500, the engine is at 5500. What the torque converter slippage will do is for a given engine rpm, the transmission's input shaft will turn somewhat slower than engine rpm.

When Mike says the car will "stall" at high speed, he doesn't mean the engine will quit, just that the car will no longer accelerate beyond a certain speed due to lack of power to overcome wind resistance.

    What Devon said.

Here ya go, learn how to fish:

    http://www.wallaceracing.com/calcmph.php

I don't know where PeeGee came up with their number but if you take 300 rpm off the 5200 for slip it was closer to 120 mph.

Remember trans ratio is always 1:1 unless you have an overdrive.

Even more fishing lessons. They are all over the internet. I used to need a calculator to do this stuff.

Faster than any sane person would attempt to drive a 23 year old car on a public road..

I've went 148 MPH in a drag car in the quarter mile.. it's very fast, even in a good driving, well set up car.

Have fun, be smart and safe.
