I went to a cruise tonight and there were drips in the driveway when I closed the garage door. I went to look and it smelled like gas. After looking under it, I could see two droplets hanging on the middle of the gas tank directly behind the pumpkin of the rear end.

Seeing that, I took a rag and wiped it and got a yellowish liquid that smelled like gas but appeared thicker.

I didn't have time to track it any further but I'm suspecting a fuel line, return line leaking or something similar.

Also of note, I put a new tank and pickup in it about 2 years ago with a new vent line on the passenger side.

Anything I'm not thinking of that I should check?

Those hoses may have been new, but I have seen old stuff sold as new that is not rated for today's 10% Alky cut fuel, and that old hose breaks down really fast, especially where it gets clamped!

Fill the tank up half way and jack up the ass end of the car overnite with some card board on the floor and the garage door left open some and in the morning you will have a much better picture of where ot might be leaking.

If you have the 68-70 style vent hoses that come out of the passenger's side of the gas tank - and it's still original to the car - there's a good chance the plastic vent (and hoses) are toast after 50 years.

Also, (if you have that style vent hoses) make sure it's secured in the clamp above the gas tank, otherwise filling up will result in some dripping.

    Ask me how I know....

Yes, did that two years ago when I replaced the tank.

Well, I found it. It did take a face and eye full of gas to discover where it was. The barely two-year-old plastic vent that goes on the passenger side was broken at the small nipple. At this point, I'm going to put a piece of line higher up and top it with a fuel filter until I can get some more gas out of it and replace it without wasting a lot of it.

Here's the piece of crap. It certainly didn't last as long as the original. I'm going to try JB Weld. If that fails again, I'm building something out of metal that will never break.

Is that an Inline Tube part?

Wow, that sucks, Greg! I put one of those Inline jobs on a few years ago, too. I do have an NOS one kicking around somewhere, though. I got to look for it!

I put on the first layer to glue it back together and now I've laid a heavier coating on to reinforce it structurally.

Where it is located, if someone wants to say it isn't original, they are too picky. LOL

Certainly easier than dropping the tank...

I put it back in the lines. It didn't crack apart. We'll see how long it holds up.
