Transmission issue?

Ever since I took my car to the drag strip it has a wine if you let off the gas and coast. Can't really tell if it is coming from the rear end or the transmission.

Is there a transmission issue that will do this or is it most likely a rear end issue? Both were rebuilt with little use.

Michael did you ever figure this out? Mine is doing same exact thing after 1 trip to the track. Thanks

I'm not saying that's the problem, but if you did not change the filter in a while, that noise will come out of it.Bruno.

I have been told that it could be three different things that will cause it.

The most common thing (and 400 turbo weak link) is the sprang on the back of the forward drum.

The factory is a 16-element and if the transmission is going to be used for performance, you should up grade to the 34-element piece.

Only way to be sure, is to take it apart.

Going to take the transmission out this winter.

I was hoping the same thing Bruno but it's still there after filter and fluid change. Only does it in high gear while coasting or under light throttle all other gears it quits whining. Also last pass my 2-3 shift was soft and trans was slipping as I crossed finish line at a much higher rpm. High gear clutches?

The sprag is on the back of the direct drum. its the intermediate sprag and gets messed up whenever you do burnouts 1-2 instead of doing 2-3 or just high gear burnouts. If you want to upgrade it, you dont even have to pull the valve body. just pull the pump, forward drum, then direct drum. flip the direct drum over and its right under the snap ring. If you do this take measurements from the pump surface to the top of each drum, so that you know you get them all stabbed into each clutch. if you don't you will have a bad day.

direct clutches, do a pressure test though, in case the pump is toast you know what to expect. but i would go ahead and plan on pulling it apart. I would dual feed the direct clutches while you're in there. Also make sure the intermediate and direct pistons are aluminum.
