Well, the short of it is I lost 1st (starts off in 2nd) and acting up in other gears and the fluid is black! I have serviced the trans before and it look bad then and real bad now. The 4-speed automatics are big money and a P.I.T.A. to replace. Okay, I know get to your point! I'm looking into a 96 Roadmaster. Putting $2K (rebuilt GM trans) into a 150K mile $500.00 car may not be smart. Whats your thoughts? All my runs are hwy at non busy times on thw road (night shift), AL.

Not sure what advice I can give you about your Century but I can give some input on the Roadmasters. As you probably know the '92-93 Buick Roadmaster sedans and wagons had the L05 5.7 350cid. Its not known for power but its longevity. It has some pep for only 180hp. '94-96 Roadmasters have the LT1, significant power increase. These cars that rolled out of Arlington, Texas are the best cars. I just filled mine up and I got 17mpg in town and have 225,914 miles. When I drove to BPG with the A/C off at 75-80 I got 26mpg on premium. Maintenance is easy. I haven't had any problems with breakdowns. A/C is about 30*F from the vents. It was an easy choice to buy this car rather than make payments on a new car that is less powerful, less capable or just plain worse off. The transmissions are expensive to rebuild in these cars as well but they aren't hard to do.

BTW: I fell in love with the Roadmaster Estate Wagons. I was supposed to look at a '92 Roadmaster Wagon yesterday. It was Light Sapphire Blue with woodgrain delete. I guess its good it sold before I got to it because I need another car like I need another hole in my head.

I'm leaning towards the 96 Roadmaster. I will probably donate my 96 Century and write it off, AL.

    Big Al ... two words

    DO IT

LT1 RoadMonster Wagons are AWESOME plus you wont look like your climbing out of a clown car anymore when you unstretch those legs of yours

Rob is right on with the mileage - upper teens around town and mid-20's on the highway at whatever speed you wish.

They're not going for too much money now adaze

al, another option if you wanna keep the century is a junk yard trans. you can probably pick one up for 500.00 bucks and put it in yourself. if you use it for winter driving i think it would be better than the rear wheel drive roadmaster. no doubt the century would get better mileage than the roadmaster also.

Alan, on the clown car   :TU: . I'm setting up to take a look this weekend. I could switch out the trans on the Century but the work without a lift is a little more then I want to fool with and the car having near 160K on the clock. RWD trans is a different ballgame and not a problem! I will post my progress for I'm not going to trash may restored 84 Century like some one thought I should do, AL.

I offered my restored 84 Century wagon on the cars for sale Forum and no one has any interest, I guess I'll try E-bay, AL.

I get 15 from mine around town with my foot in it. Rabbit starts n stops.
Never took a trip though to test highway.

Sucker will drive through a house like a tank and keep going safety package.
