I am getting ready to restore my trunk and was wondering if I should go with GM's Restore spatter paint or is the Duplicolor gonna be the same stuff? Has anyone used the duplicolor stuff and are you happy with it? I will just throw this in, what material should I use to replace the 'stuff' that the factory put in the trunk in the seams (where the inner wheel well meets the trunk floor)? It is awfully thick and hard to remove but it was pulling away and I want to replace it. Any help appreciated. Thanks,
Jarrod I just finished mine this weekend, Use the Duplicolor Black and Aqua, They sell it at O'Reillys. :beer The following stores do not carry it in Austin: AutoZone Pep Boys Advance Just thought I would give you a heads up so you don't have to search all over like I did, 2 cans will cost you just over 9 bucks... I used 4 cans GM will cost $10 a can.
Thanks Phil, Saw the GM stuff on GM Parts Direct for $6.22/can and just wondered the diff. Thanks for the heads up on O'reilly. Will get some there. Did you topcoat with the same Duplicolor Topcoat? Thanks again,
One tip on spatter painting a trunk. If you paint it first with a semi-flat paint, it will take a ton less spatter paint. What your trying to do is re-create the finish under the spatter paint, which would have been the black primer of the factory panels. That primer was not flat black, but about an eggshell or semi-flat gloss. I do believe I have seen spray can paint in semi-flat. We use mixed stuff here in the shop, so I am afraid I can't offer any more help on the spray can semi-flat.. Last trunk I did, I used about 1.5 cans of the Duplicolor aqua spatter paint. JW
Thanks Jim, I used Krylon Semi-Flat Black on most of my engine compartment. It turned out great and I have extra cans from the case I bought that I can use. Thanks for your input. What do you use for the seams???
3M Brushable seam sealer... You can usually find it at an auto body supply store, or sometimes at a napa. Napa may not carry the 3M brand, but they all work about the same. JW
