I guess we all can agree that we are going to disagree on this subject. I don't make a lot of money at my job, all i see in my wallet is a hole where i wish money was, but people who do make a lot, don't bother me, more power to them. All i know is this year will be the first year i run anything at these races and i was looking forward to it. Hope to have a good time, i will not complain about anyone elses car and expect the same in return, i just want to have fun and do something with my Dad i have dreamed about for a lot of years.
This is all i will say anymore about this subject, I wish all of you well and hope you have a fun safe summer and hope you all can go out and make your cars faster.:TU:

On the far right in the same picture is Tom "the Ghost" Coddington also of the Ramchargers team who was also a factory engineer. Tom and the late Dan Mancini were the fuel experts for the Ramchargers and the factory teams. Tom adapted the Hilborn Fuel injection for use on all the Hemis including setting it up for other teams like Sox and Martin. He also developed the 440 six pack package.

Very true, that's why so many argue to keep things in check.

John I went for my first time in '06 with a car that ran solidly in the 14's  . I had a blast , 800 mile drive one way , hope to get back out there this year with the car running a wee bit slower ... or faster , depends ...

So why can't an SS/AH car add weight and run in any of the other S/S classes like the rest of the cars? That was my point...

You can add wait and run in a different class, but like my dad says he would rather have a slower ss/ah car than a faster ss/ba car. prestige thing of being in a class dominated by one brand of car

    Hemis + rulebooks = ????

My NHRA rule book reads "Class SS/AH restricted to 1968 Plymouth Barracuda and 1968 Dodge Dart with Hemi engine (automatic and/or manual). These vehicles restricted to this class only."

Dominated thats quite easy when the Darts and Cudas are the only ones in it.A budy of mine wanted in with a 64 Thunderbolt but was turned down ,its a good thing he would have made a bunch of them unhappy.

    Re: SS/AH is thatta way------>

So Mr. Keyes, you send me a personal message calling me a whiny BITCH. You know what, Ill take on that whiny BITCH role if it helps keep one of the best muscle car events on the planet in check. So now lets look into your comment a little deeper. Oh I get it, youre all pumped up now knowing your brand is about to knock off the Corvettes at the top of the list. You see your one of those P/S racers who really doesnt care if the back of the pack gets faster every year. And you dont care how they accomplish that goal either. Thats not what this event is about. So when certain people build these purpose built cars like this Hemi RR / Firebird it tends to make the rest of the P/S group a little up set. And I dont blame them for getting up set when the majority of them are complying with the rules and spirit of the race. And far as Im concerned the only way in hell that a steel body P/S Hemi RR beats one of the L-88 Corvettes is to cheat like hell. The Corvettes have way too much of a HP/Weight ratio advantage. And along with that I would like to say, Mr. Hoover and the P/S Hemi group. I dont mean any disrespect towards one of the greatest engineering engines from the muscle car era.

Guess which combo the Hemi guys banded together to get removed before it beat them to the 8s in S/S? Yep, the L88 (albeit, in a '67).

Is that why NHRA allowed tube chassis small block to start competing in prostock
Because the HEMIS where so outgunned and slow?
Im by far no hemi expert, but from engine building backround, and some common sense,a l88 isnt all that great a piece let alone a world beater!
Like was alluded to,its a good engineina better chassis is all.
    Carry on all lol:)

NHRA Pro Stock *debuted* and carried on as a pounds per cubic inch class until '82, so everyone and their dog (not just the Chevrolets) built small blocks (and/or went 4-doors) to get as light as possible. And by your rationale the current 2,350lb + 500ci rule would mean a field day for a Hemi in P/S, yet they're misteriously absent...

They are absent because someone built a drce head casting!
There may be a better designed normally aspirated RACE head available, but not from the oem!
if they gm camps still ran a factory type oem designed bb chevy head and the mopars still had oem designed hemi heads-well you know the rest lol

And it's not a Hemi design...which is my exact point.

Naturally aspirated, the semi-hemi Boss '9 head is arguably better...that's basically what the new '99+ "Hemi" is anyway, a canted roof twisted wedgie type chamber. Under pressure is where the ChryCo Hemi head shines, no arguments there...naturally aspirated creates some issues for it (compression, crossflow, etc).

Here's some interesting reading that should *surely* bond together all of the Mopar, Chevy, and even Ford guys...who knew that the "Father of the Corvette" very well may have had an influence on the Hemi way back when, with his Ardun "Hemi" flathead conversion heads.

Surely this thread would be better served if we were to get back on topic...if I could only remember what that was!
