I will start by saying I am thankful for all your past help with my car its come a long way since I first put it together. the combo is a .30 over 455 sealed power 9.5 pistons. kenne bell mk2h cam 68 430 heads stage 1 intake and exh valves unshrouded, nice valve job. mild port on heads and intake, the intake is a performer (painted red) everyday performance 800cfm qjet , pertronix ign, complete including box. completely redone distributor advance starts at 1000rpm all in at 2500 34 total. stock exhaust manifolds 2 1/2 torque tech exhaust walker long case mufflers. th400 hughes 2500 converter, 10 bolt bop posi w/3;36 gears. car weighs 4100 pounds w/275/60/15 mt drag radials the car went 13:34 at 100mph does this sound good or is there more there with this combo this car is extremely clean and detailed stock stock stock appearing nothing shows I ran it with the gs air cleaner with a 14" lid. back at it again this year did a little more to it swapped over from the pertronix ign (which failed, never again) to a msd 6al with stock points, I put drag shocks in it and removed the front sway bar. 19psi in the drag radials shifted it at 5400 it went a best to date of 13.04 at 102, 1.79 60ft could not get it to go 12.999999 it weighed 4100lbs this car is driven everywhere and does well at shows I found 33 degrees of timing it likes with a little ( bottle) of lucus octane boost . what do you think ??? post your thoughts

Running good for what you have

Looks good to me. You're running right where I'd expect to be. Good 60's. As you've shown you don't need anything too fancy to run those times. Depending on the air conditions your combo may squeak into the 12's as-is. What day and what track did you run on? You can check the conditions at Drag Times DA calculator. Should have been pretty good conditions if it was at this time of year. Also you have to consider that you are running a convertible which puts a bit more drag on the car.

You are right in that zone where I(and Kenne-Bell) would recommend a Hays S4 ignition system. They were always worth a tenth or so and can be wired right into your MSD box. Next time at the track you possibly could loosen up the secondary windup on the Q-Jet to see if that helps. Maybe a 1/4 turn looser at a time. If it bogs off the line then it is too much.

The only questions about the engine combo is did you block off the exhaust crossovers in the heads leaving just a 1/4" hole near the choke coil to heat it? That may be worth a bit plus save the paint on the intake as the running time goes by. Also possibly doing a little grinding on the outlet of the exhaust manifolds to let out all that exhaust, if not done. You could always run slightly shorter 255 60 15 DR's to pick up a little effective gear ratio. Might be worth a smidge. Something to consider when your current tires are worn out.

If you want to get into the 12's under most conditions do some opening up of the heads under the valve seat. Maybe you did? That is not the type of headwork I think of when I see "porting".

All just thoughts for the future. Great job though.

If you can get the weight down to 4,000 lbs, that should get you in the 12s easily, even removing the spare tire would probably get you there.

Rule of thumb starting out around the weight you're at is for every 100 lbs = .1 less in the QM.

Your 60 ft time looks good but the top end looks like it is running out of steam a little. A set of headers I would think may also get you into the 12s with no other changes as well.

OR, some exhaust manifold porting will help get the spent gases out a little bit faster for another maybe 5-10 more HP?

Also removing the power steering belt will unlock a couple HP. Steering isn't to bad when the car is moving but a little stiff standing still. You are very close to that 12.99999999 so a little bit is all you need, just may be enough?

Remove spare tire and power steering belt would probably be enough to get you to 12.8s? Fun stuff, enjoy!

I know the drag radials are too tall but they were free, that alone would of put it in the 12s I did remove the spare and jack . the heat crossovers in the heads were blocked one on each side opposite sides. I have a Gessler spacer plate under the carb and have loosened up the qjet the car runs great it was supposed to just be a show car but I cant resist playing with it. I don't want headers on it, it looks all factory bone stock , but its not , the buick way lol I ran the car at new England dragway and there was good air that day my 8th mile numbers say it should have gone 12.80 the car also has no hop bars in it which work great. shorter drag radials and a bonzie pass in the spring 12 second all steel street buick ……..

Work with what you have. Drop the obvious weight (spare, Jack..Kleenex..etc), work on suspension to launch harder, port the exhaust manifolds... Fine tune it.
