just came back ....the guns were clean and he didn't have any
paint mixed to try em out ..he didn't want to mix a lil shot glass worth
he was kind of relunctant about it ...I asked if I could spray solvent out
of em he didn't want to at first but then agreed .....they sprayed good ..but thats solvent

the deal is the 2 sata's and one smaller mini sata and some unknown primer
    gun for 7 bills ...

    he wont budge on price

I told him I will get back to him by tomorrow

just thinking if I buy one brand new one it would cost more than 1/2 of that
but then I notice most guys that use these sata's and other high end guns religiously use one for base and one for clear ...never same gun for both

    why?

retail guns go for around $400 with heavy discount...if you can wait till a.m. I can look up pricing and average Bodyshop price...we are Sata's largest independent distributor in the U.S.,,,,

That is a lot of money for used Sata stuff, but having been the DeVilbiss rep for years I can say that. If you are only doing a few jobs a year 700.00 is alot of money.

With water base paints becoming the new standard, solvent equipment is becoming obsolete. All of those guns will be useless in the very near future.

You could buy a "New" CVI, SRIW, and a Finishline guns for almost the same money as the "used stuff", and replacement parts for DV equipment is much less than Sata.

Having used all of the Sata, Iwata, and DV/Teckna equipment I have found that the only difference is that DV dosen't do the celeberty endorsement thing to sell there product. They let it sell itself.

You can price them out through your local jobber or Eastwood mail order. Oh yah one more thing, other than price, new has a warrenty, used doesn't

cpk 71 im just a number

we use different guns as to not cross contaminate solid colors, metallics etc.
You use less thinner cleaning them that way also. 7 bills for 4 guns is a good price. They are 4 to 6 by themselves.

I dont know ....I been watching ebay for a while and I see these
sata 3000's going for $350 and up and thats used

maybe I buy new one and then recoup 3/4 of my money back
on ebay...thats what most are doing ....."painted one car and now selling"

I been using a devilbis finishline ...its fine (mostly primer)
but visited a well know body shop in my area and hanged around
the paint booth for a few hours (trying to steal their karma)...the painter let me spray out some bc passes on paper ...and its a big difference with the sata

    or was it the atmosphere:laugh:

Sata uses Stainless steel fluid Passages so WB is not an issue...they do have a WB series of guns...but clear coat is still Solvent Based...We also sell Iwata...Accuspray..Devilbiss...Sharpe...Binks as well as 1/2 dozen imports..ASTRO...CIA....AES etc.... I have cheap guns for primer and Satas for base and clear....you would be amazed at how base coat...specially high metallics and pearls are better atomized with a quality gun,,,,I do like Iwata with their tulip spray pattern...but prefer the ergonomics of the Sata...it feels more balanced...the Iwata is skinny and does not fit well in my hand and I cannot adjust the fan with my thumb the way I can a SATA...if I had smaller hands the Iwata might be the ticket...when you have 1L of High solids clear in the cup you want to feel comfortable...specially if you are doing an overall....

wow....have Sata guns gone up......last gun I sold was 3 years ago....I now just order them...never looked at the new pricing...

Sata Jet 3000 HVLP Digital 1.3mm witk 1L Aluminum cup Retails for $789.00 we have been selling for $573

    part # is 133181

Same gun non digital Retails for $655.00 we have been selling for $450

gun prices are the same no matter what nozzle size...

thw WSB (Water) version is the same pricing ....one thing that is nice about the SATA is you can order a left handed fan kit....

The problem with Sata is that there is too many levels of distribution, everybody gets a piece of the pie. As a DV rep I learned that, all DV resellers can purchase direct with DV, less fingers in the pie.

Rex if all you are doing is one car and then selling off the gun why not just borrow one or buy a new Finishline gun. There is a local custom painter that has people pay alot of money for his tallents. A Finishline is all he uses, I got him to try a Teckna and he bought one for clear but still uses his Finishline for base.

Some painters are brand loya, like people with there cars. I have used everybody's equipment, some are great for doing complete jobs and are useless for blends and touch-ups others are the reverse.

I reconmended the CVI to you simply because it very user friendly, has interchangable tips, waterbourne ready, and has a good feel for the seasond pro and the beginer. Also the price point is favourable over the others.

I'm not knocking there product but they are more money due to distribution channels and that also applies to the replacement parts. When I take the feed back I recieve from end-users most of it is very favourable.

As for the bells and whistles, do you really need a digital gauge, when it craps out so does your gun, and they don't like solvent if the ever.....when they leak.

As for waterbourne paint all base paints will be water base by the end of 2010. The clears will be the same by 2012. This is to lower the VOCs in paints and help the atmosphere. It is a better way to go anyhow, I could do a long winded pro waterbourne thread here but believe me it is better.

I hope I haven't overloaded you too much buthey that's why were are all here.

    CVI ....?

I will take that into consideration ....

I'm a first time painter (primer really so far) the only gun I know is the
devilbiss finishlibe with a 1.8 for primer ...

its the person behind the gun ....but when I made some lines on paper
with a sata it seemed to be the gun ....

I use both Sata and Iwata.I like the Sata for base and the Iwata for clear.I think if had to choose one gun for base and clear it would be the Sata it's made better then the Iwata. The 3000 sata dosn't shoot that much differnt than the 2000 Sata. You could pick a used 2000 cheaper.

he used it for spraying clear only ...looks good and clean no leaks

he said for me its no problem using for bc/cc with this one
it was his one gun out of 3 sata's he was only selling
one of em...he said take your pick
the shop he worked at closed up ...poor guy.... he offered to come buy
and said he would paint my car for $225...I told him thanks but I wanted
that "I did it myself thing" he understood

    and he also said :
"you can finish your car and throw it on ebay and get $325 easy"

1.3 is fine for both...good deal.... for High solids clear might be a little small...might go on dry....close fan a little bit and move slower...HVLP guns spray different than conventional guns...
