Any body used the Red-Tek R-12a or the Duracool R12a ?

It sounds like form reading on a couple of other forums to work very well.

Seems much better than a R-134 conversion.

I've never heard of redtek 12a, but the duracool r-12a works great for me too. :)

I guess you only about 40 % the about of old R12 and makes less head pressure on compressor. It is quite available here in Canada and Red-Tek claims cools about 14 DegF more than R12 at center vent temperature.
It is the best for the old R12 systems compared to a R134 conversion.

I think will go the R-12a route.

I was just going to ask a similar question. My 71 Riviera seems to still have a tiny bit of charge in the system. Enough for the compressor to run but no cooling whatsoever.

Anyone know if I can just charge it up with the R-12 replacements like R-12a? Or do I have to evacuate the old stuff first?

From what I've read I'd like to avoid R134 since I know you definitely have to evacuate all the old R12 before you use it. And it just won't work quite as well in general.

I switched to r134 a few years ago, didn't know about r12a, but I had a leak and found it in the condensor muffler, under the fender. Replaceed that and put in r134, cools like you wouldn't believe. This past summer we had a few 100 degree plus days, andthe vert stayed nice and cool, down in the 50's from what my thermometer said that I stuck in a vent.

I converted to 134A a few years ago and have been very pleased. Replaced a failed compressor at the same time and haven't even had to add any refrigerant. Cools as good as a new car too. Note that a properly tuned A6 compressor with real R12 will damn near blow snow out the vents but the 134 is fine by me and I can pick it up anywhere.

I topped up my 87 Monte (has the org. R12) with the Duracool this summer. On the can it said it was compatable. It worked great all summer. Before that my air never worked for 3 years.

I was very happy with the Duracool I got from Bernie R. (Chicagoland chapter). Very good stuff......need to pick up some more.
