So I have a new camshaft. I blew the last one becasue I had double springs and didn't realize.

I am about to break a new cam in and I want to do it right this time. I have 71 electra heads and my valve spring look like the one in the picture. Inside the spring it looks like a guide or something. What is that? Do I have to remove that before I break in the new camshaft?

PLEASE HELP S.O.S. I can't afford to do this 3 times

This topic should be in the engine section of whatever engine you're working on, you'll get more answers there.

This section is for new comers to introduce themselves, looks like you're about 9 years to late for that.:D

As for the spring question, that looks like a single spring with a damper, the damper doesn't really give the spring more pressure but just to be safe might be a good idea to leave them out for break in. Just make sure after break in that you re-install those before any WOT test runs so you don't float your valves.
