Vented or non vented fan shrouds?

I've seen the debate rage on other forums. For those of you that have fabbed fan shrouds: are yours either ported/flapped, or solid??

 

Solid. Goes from as much of the radiator as possible to about an inch from the outside of the fan with the fan 1/4-1/2 way into the shroud. My fabricating skills are not good enough to make it exactly as I'd like, but close works.

I made a simple circle one and ran it for a while, but ultimately I ended up just cutting up an OE one. Sitting idle in stop and go traffic with outside temps approaching 120F in Las Vegas and no overheating issues. A 2row BeCool radiator helps too.

 

That OE shroud does look really clean in there

 

Thanks. The car was originally a V6 car, so the shroud was a bit long for clearing the A/C compressor.
