this is a dash tach that was removed from a 70 stage 1 car in a bone yard almost 15 yrs ago. I was wondering if any one could give me some info on its history. Has anyone out ther come across one of these before.:puzzled:

I'm betting it came out of a Canadian built car or something like it.Looks like it has a metric like conversion.Maybe like kilometers on a speedometer. John is wrong! It definitely came from my car!

Inner numbers look like MPH with like 3.64:1 gears.:Do No:

Looks to be percent, not MPH.

Hmmmm...I have never seen one of those before...percent works out as well as 3.64 gears mph. Any history of the car it came from? Is it still around (doubt it)? Pretty strange. Are the "little" numbers silk screened on or are they decals?

it was pulled out of a junked 70 stage 1, i'm guessing it was a junk yard here in mass. but i haven't got the whole story yet

The car it came from is more than likely long gone. A friend of mine who gave it to me this morning said it came from a 70 stage 1 that was in a bone yard 10-15 years ago. The little numbers apear to be factory issued same color texture as the others.

Don't look out here. I've never seen one like this. It would match the speedo's that came on some of the Canadian cars though...:Do No:

Seattle isn't too far away from Canada - that would make some sense.

I wonder if Dave Knutsen would have any idea about it?

    Why would they convert rpm's:confused:

Each smaller number is doubling the larger number it corresponds to. What could this possibly be for?

I saw it at "buicksstage1" 's house. Ask Chris if he can get you a photo. Unfortunately I don't have one, sorry.

Canadian cars didn't have metric speedometers until 1978. There is no metric conversion for RPM's and even if it was a speedometer with both MPH and KPH the numbers don't line up right. 30 MPH is about 50 KPH and 60 MPH as about 100 KPH. Weird piece:Do No:

It looks to me to be percentage as well. I have never seen a tach like that..not sure why when nobody can figure somehting out it must be canadian:Dou:

Interesting. Possibly a tach for export overseas....but who uses % instead of rpm??

what rear gear would u need to be running 60 mph @ 3000 rpm .
looks like a combo unit to me, for a specifically geared car . could have been a gm promo/special occasion unit .

Assuming a 1:1 top gear ratioi and a 27" tire (a lot of factory tires were this diameter), that comes out to a 4.02 gear at 60 mph/3000 rpm.

    A 27.5" tire would have a 4.10 ratio.
